WHAT'S HAPPENING IN FUSION:

Evaluating Success!

Test of Silent Contextualized Reading Fluency for Year 2 Classes

For schools with Year 2 Fusion classes, we will be doing one more round of the TOSCRF, or Slasher, to evaluate their growth. The window during which this testing will take place is May 4th - May 15th. We will be in touch with a specific schedule so that you know ahead of time when we will be coming to test your class and will be able to adjust your lesson that day for testing. It should only take about 15 minutes of your class and we will facilitate the process.

Student Survey

Please be on the lookout for an email with a surveymonkey link that will direct you to a survey for your students to take in the next couple of weeks. Please have as many of your students take the survey as possible. Student survey data is an important piece of evaluating Fusion.

ANNOUNCEMENTS & REMINDERS

Professional Development for 2015-2016

Training dates for 2015-2016 initial Fusion PD are as follows:

August 10-11 - 2015-16 Year 1 Fusion Training: Establish the Course Y1

August 12 - 2015-16 Year 2 Fusion Training: Establish the Course Y2, Strategy Integration

As you are discussing scheduling for next year, and are determining which teachers may be teaching Year 1 or Year 2 of Fusion, please make sure everyone is aware of these dates so that anyone in your department that needs training can be in attendance.

Face-to-face PD is the most effective way to become proficient in the skills you need to start Fusion Reading with a bang on the first day of school, so getting these dates solidified on the calendar early is important. Establish the Course, which includes Thinking Reading and the Vocabulary Process is covered during Year 1 PD and Year 2 PD includes Establish the Course Year 2 and Strategy Integration.

This is the only time these strategies will be offered through face to face PD during the 2015-2016 school year. The additional PD dates that take place throughout the school year will address the other strategies covered throughout the Fusion Reading course.

Additional information will be communicated regarding location of the PD days.

FUSION FANFARE - SHOUT OUTS AND HIGHLIGHTS

  • Shout out to ALL FUSION TEACHERS for all of the hard work that you have all put in over the 2014-2015 school year. You have all invested so much time and energy into being the best Fusion teachers you can be for your students and we have seen your students' confidence and reading proficiency grow in your classrooms throughout the year. Now that we are in the home stretch of this school year, we are excited to see how this growth translates on their EOG and MAP scores!

  • Shout out to Stephanie Johnson at Coulwood Middle School, Nicole Sprackland at James Martin Middle School and Deondra Gladney at Sedgefield Middle School for helping us collect parent support letters under a time crunch as part of a grant application process to continue our partnership with KU to improve literacy for students with disabilities.
