SEPTEMBER NOCK NOTES
Welcome Back
WELCOME BACK
We have only been back a few school days and we have had a GREAT opening of schools. We have consistently put together a string of positive days in our building. From arriving at school on time, to getting reacquainted with our routines and expectations, to diving into our curriculum, I could not be prouder of the Nock students, faculty and staff. I appreciate all of the parent support we have received throughout our first week back.
As we look ahead, all of our students have wonderful opportunities ahead to make a positive difference in their lives and in the lives of their peers. Achieving goals will take a commitment and a willingness from all of us to do the work. We have a talented and dedicated team ready to assist our students each day. With hard work from our students, and staff along with informed parents and a community that values education, we can make this the best school year yet.
By making sure your children are in the classroom, focused on learning and celebrating success along the way, students will feel connected and build confidence in their abilities. When our students succeed, we all succeed because of the contributions young minds can make to society and the community in which we live. I hope to see you participating with your students at the Nock. I wish everyone a year filled with academic achievements, and many fun, memorable experiences, while taking in all the Nock has to offer.
There are quite a few reminders below. Please take a moment to review and never hesitate to reach out to me.
I look forward to our continued partnership,
Nick Markos
Principal

EXPECTATIONS
We have clearly outlined our "PHONE AWAY" for the day policy. In an effort to limit distractions and interruptions, all cell phones are to be placed in the students' lockers at the beginning of each day. We will be able to communicate any messaging to or from your child through our main office staff. There is a telephone in the main office available for students to use upon permission from the office staff. Below is the discipline policy for students using cell phones during the day:
First Time: Phone goes to teacher until the end of the day and then returned. A communication will be sent home notifying the student’s parent/guardian..
Second Time: Phone is sent down to the office/Assistant Principal until the end of the day and returned. A communication will be sent home notifying the parent/guardian.
Third Time: Phone goes to Administration, parent/guardian will be contacted and student will sign a phone agreement.
Watches that have technology to receive and send messages or emails are also seen as “phones”.
No Wireless Headphones allowed. Students may use plug-in headphones
Phones will be passed in at the beginning of each period or students can place their phones in their lockers daily. We will review these expectations with our students upon their arrival.
If there are extenuating circumstances that a parent or guardian needs to be in contact with their child, please contact the Nock Administration so accommodations can be made.
The policy was adopted to maximize student attentiveness, increase student engagement and limit student distractions. Below is a great article from an educator who has seen the similar shift in distractions and how they impact student learning.
We, again, thank you for your support in partnering with us to ensure that we maximize every opportunity we have to engage your child in learning.

Welcome back to school! We were thrilled to see students and families join the PTO on Tuesday morning to greet their teachers and staff with donuts and coffee. It was one small gesture to show how much we appreciate and love our Newburyport educators.
