This week in school
What a busy 'it can't possibly be nearly the end of June yet' kind of week!
The classes have been busy this week, with all the usual business of learning and playing within the existing Covid restrictions. As adults its hard not to focus on the things we are not allowed to do, but the children are not focused on the negative, they are just getting on with it!
One thing that we have realised about our children is that they can be far more resilient than we expect. The changes they have encountered this year have indeed affected them but we are hoping that all we are doing to support and normalise things at school will help them to recover in stages as we go along and restrictions are lifted.
Thank you for your continued support - have a really lovely weekend.

Stars
This week we have looked at the season of summer. We have talked about the things we see and do in summer. We have discussed keeping safe in the sun and near water. The children have enjoyed creating their own ice creams with chocolate and strawberry sauce and of course sprinkles! We have set up our own ice cream shop and enjoyed using the till and real money to sell and buy ice creams. The children have created their own sun pictures using different materials.
In maths we have been learning about shape and in phonics we have looked at the Phase 2 Set 4 sounds – ck,e,u,r. We have also been practising our listening skills and awareness of sounds in the environment.
FS/Y1
A highlight of this week was Rev Pete coming into school to visit us and talk about what we might see in a church. He even gave us a virtual tour of St Wilfrid's. We connect into Rev Pete's worship every week but the children loved seeing him in person rather than on a screen for once! Rev Pete loved coming into school too!
In maths we have been revising telling the time to o'clock and half past. We have continued our work based on the book Halibut Jackson and are now beginning to plan our own versions about Halibut's friend, Cod Benson. We have been designing outfits for him and using exciting adjectives to describe them.
Year 2
Year 3
Year 4
This week in maths, we have been investigating properties of shape and practised drawing some, based on individual and shared properties. We are using the language of shape with improved confidence.
In English, the children have written their opinions about banning computer games for all under 15 years of age. Unsurprisingly, most strongly disagreed and breathed a collective sigh of relief when they realised it was not going to happen in reality!
The children have enjoyed investigating how muscles work together, to help the skeleton move. Like the muscles themselves, Year 4 have worked well, in pairs, to create a moving model of the hand to reinforce their understanding. These models make an effective, interactive display for all to see in the class science areas.
Year 5/6
In year 5 and 6 this week, we have continued to show our growing maturity and desire to improve, in all that we have done. Things are really hotting up in our class text. Stanley and Zero are alive and well having survived the ravages of the desert. What will their next move be? In Maths we have been working on the perimeter and area of shape and in English, we have begun to understand the importance of creation stories in Native American culture; improving a very basic version, with much more detail and craftsmanship. Our topic work has involved an information hunt to identify important information about a specific Native American Tribe, in preparation to create ICT based presentations that they will deliver to the class. Well done again everyone!
