Summer Updates
July 13, 2022
I hope that you have all had a wonderful summer. My family and I just returned from vacation where we visited friends in Oklahoma City and then traveled down to the Gulf of Mexico to visit the ocean. It was a wonderful trip.
Prior to vacation, we have been very busy with new family visits, tours, and admissions. We expect to welcome more than 60 new students this year and have a total enrollment around 260 students. We will have two classes in PreK, first grade, third grade, and fifth grade. Our classes in K and 2nd are full with a wait list. We are blessed to be part of a growing school community!
This newsletter is chock full of important information as we approach the first day of school on August 9th. Please take some time to read through it and feel free to reach out with any questions. Also, take care to look at the attachments at the end of the newsletter and download anything you might need (school calendar, supply list, etc.)

Uniform Policy - Uniform Sale
Beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, we will use Schoolbelles as our uniform supplier. They will provide monogrammed long and short sleeved polo shirts, a nice array of skirts, skorts, and jumpers, as well as other durable uniform items such as pants and shorts. Parents can order online starting immediately at www.schoolbelles.com using school code S3012 and selecting whether you are shopping for a boy or a girl. Schoolbelles also has a local store at 6315 N Keystone in Indianapolis. They are open from 10 am to 7 pm, Monday through Thursday and 10 am to 5 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
At this year's uniform sale on July 23rd, we will have samples of Schoolbelles' skirts, skorts, and jumpers to try on and for sizing purposes and information on ordering. We will also have Avon Sports Apparel with us with a variety of new and regular spirit wear offerings and gently used, discounted uniform tops and bottoms.
For this school year, students may also wear white or light blue polos (non-monogrammed) from any uniform line. Starting with the 2023-2024 school year, all polos will be monogrammed and purchased through Schoolbelles. Past year's monogrammed red polos will also be available at the used uniform sales.
Uniform pants and shorts may be purchased from any uniform line. They must have belt loops and be khaki or navy blue in color.
Additionally, this year's theme t-shirt can be worn every Wednesday with uniform bottoms.
An updated Uniform at a Glance sheet is available at the bottom of this newsletter.
Mrs. Stevenson, event chair, put together this signup genius for volunteers. As always, volunteers are needed to ensure a successful event (AND you might be able to do a little early shopping as well!)
Staffing Updates
Every school year brings some adjustments as staff members depart or take on new roles and others join our school community.
This year we say goodbye to Mrs. Miller who taught fifth grade and has accepted a position at another school. We are grateful for the time she has been with us and all that she has brought to Saint Susanna.
Mrs. Miller writes, It has been a pleasure being a small part of the St. Susanna family for the past five years. My family and I want to thank you all for welcoming us with open arms. I appreciate the support in the classroom and beyond. St. Susanna will hold a very special place in my heart. We have made many friends that have become like family and we couldn't be happier that God placed us at St. Susanna when we needed it the most. Thank you for the great memories. - Mrs. Miller
Mrs. Weaver will remain as our middle school math teacher and will take on some administrative duties as a part-time assistant principal. We also welcome Mrs. Zorman as a second prekindergarten teacher, Ms. Caduto and Mrs. Carlson as fifth grade teachers, and Mrs. Hardwick as a middle school literature teacher.
Rebecca Zorman - Prekindergarten Teacher
I worked at St. Susanna three years ago as a Pre-K aide and Extended Day Ministry Director. I left for a few years to pursue another career and continue my education. I am continuously drawn back to working with children in the classroom, so here I am! I am currently finishing my bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education at Indiana Wesleyan University. I have two children that attend St. Susanna, and we also are members at St. Susanna Church. We love to camp, hike and travel whenever we can. I love working with children and seeing their imaginations grow and develop. I am so happy and blessed to be back as a part of the St. Susanna family.
Deborah Carlson - 5th Grade Teacher
My name is Deborah Carlson and I have been a teacher for 18 years. I grew up in Russellville, IN with three brothers, one of which is my twin! I graduated from North Putnam High School and attended Purdue University where I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I went on to South Carolina where I received my Master’s Degree in Education several years later. I am married and have nine grandchildren who are amazing, and light of my world. I truly love to teach and am very excited to be a part of St. Susanna!
Kaylee Hardwick, Middle School Literature
I am excited to return to St. Susanna for my 9th year of teaching! After being a stay at home mom for the past couple of years, I will rejoin the Spartan family to teach middle school Literature! I previously taught Pre-K and also have several years of experience teaching K-8th grade. I attended Archdiocesan schools through high school and then graduated from IUPUI with her degree in Education and Reading. I am married to Cody, a Marian University professor, and we have three children: Lewis (5), Sheamus (3), and Odin (1).
CYO Sports
CYO Sports are available to all Saint Susanna School students. A student does not have to be a parishioner to join a CYO team. Students may also participate in sports we do not offer such as football or wrestling at another local parish's program.
Below, you will find information on girls basketball skills sessions, this year's St. Susanna CYO sports offerings and registration information, and an opportunity for boys in grades 3-8 to participate in football at St. Michael's.
Safe Environment Training
In order to volunteer in our school building during the day or attend field trips as a chaperone, you must have a current safe environment training on file with us. This requirement includes safe environment training and a basic background check through the Archdiocese. The training and background checks are good for five years from the time of completion.
To check your current expiration date, contact Mrs. Carson at kcarson@saintsusanna.com
To obtain a new training and background check:
- Go to the website www.archindysafeparish.org
- Create an account as this is a new system. Previously the Archdiocese used a system called "Safe and Sacred."
- You will need a passcode in order to create an account. The passcode is Archindy2021
- Complete the background check for school or parish VOLUNTEER and select Saint Susanna as a recipient of your information.
- Complete the training video and questions.
Please allow up to two weeks for this process to be completed.
Volunteer Opportunities
The service hour tracking form can be found here and a copy will be sent home in the back-to-school packets. We ask that each family complete five service hours this school year. These hours can be completed during school or parish events.
Easy Fund-Raising for Saint Susanna Catholic School!

- Step 2: Create a username and connect it to your child’s school
- Step 3: Scan your grocery store receipt. Items with the new Box Tops label will be automatically credited to your school
Does this mean I should stop sending in my paper Box Tops that I have already clipped? No! Continue to send those to the school!
