English Language Arts

We will be working on Daily 5 this week as well as going over the practice Reading STAAR test. Learners will be grading their own tests and learning about strategies that could help them.

For spelling, learners will be receiving and practicing a new set of spelling words.

Are your kids working on www.mobymax.com at home? According to my records, only two students out of both classes are utilizing this resource on a regular basis. Maybe they could read a book one night and work on Mobymax the next night? I can also change the reading levels if your child finds the stories and questions to be too easy or too difficult. I would also recommend the Vocabulary section as a good resource. Thank you very much!

Social Studies

In social studies, we will be learning about natural disasters.

Vocabulary: climate, weather, tornadoes, volcanoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, blizzards, community, urban, suburb, rural, commute

WOW: Most likely

This week in math we are beginning fractions! We will be exploring how to decompose fractions, write them on a number line and even what it means for two fractions to be equivalent.

Key Vocabulary:

equal parts

parts of a whole

Homework: will be in the red or green folders again this week. Please be sure that your learner is doing their homework in pencil not pen or marker. Homework needs to be returned in the folder on Friday.

This week in science we will continue to learn about the planets and our solar system. We will talk about the planets position to the sun.
