Jimmy Carter
39th president of the United States
During his presidency Carter passed many bills that helped our environment. He passed the Soil and Water Conservation act, the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act, and the Endangered American Wilderness Act. He also passed the Superfund act which funded the cleaning of toxic waste dumps. One of Carter's greatest accomplishments was the Alaskan National Interest Lands Conservation Act which conserved over 100 million acres and 26 rivers in Alaska.
The way Jimmy Carter fits into our study of APES is in chapter 21.6 where his Superfund Act was mentioned as well as some of the clean up sites.
