WMS 2020-21 Back In-person Learning
Hello there Wizard Families!
On behalf of the WMS staff, we are thrilled to welcome each and every one of you to the fourth quarter of the 2020-2021 school year. With the quarter change we will also be shifting our educational model from hybrid learning to full-in-person learning. We are excited to get them safely back into the building. This year proves to be an unforgettable year of learning, flexibility, understanding, growth, and innovation! We appreciate your patience and grace as we navigate through these changes together.
In-person Learning
Entering the building: Each morning our doors will open at 8:15 AM. After arriving at school, students will enter from 3 different entrances depending on their grade level - this will help alleviate any crowding at the main entrance and get students screened and into the building as quickly as possible.
Eighth graders enter through the main entrance.
Seventh graders enter through the large doors on Main Street.
Sixth graders enter through the west doors by the cafeteria.
To help with traffic flow and maintaining cohorts, we strongly recommend that you drop your students off closest to their specified entrance - 6th and 8th Grade parents using the main parking lot, and 7th grade parents dropping off in the cut-out on Main Street. In both of these places, please pull forward as far as you can leaving no space between you and the car in front of you. If dropping off a 6th grade student, please do not stop at the back sidewalk if there is space in front of you.
We will start our screening process at 8:15 AM every morning. As students enter the building, their temperature will be taken. If a child’s temperature is elevated, we will have them sit in an area close by and rescreen them after a few minutes of rest. If your child is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, please keep them home and call our attendance line at (970)686-8205.
Once students are screened, they can grab a free, boxed breakfast at a station available at their entrance and take it with them to their first hour class. Students will be reporting directly to their first hour classes.
Masks are required for all students and staff. Face coverings will be required for students in all schools, including Windsor Middle School. Everyone in a district building will need to provide their own cloth face coverings; wearing them properly will be enforced on our school campus as part of our dress code policy.
In an effort to minimize exposure and cohort crossing, students will be encouraged to leave campus as quickly as possible at the end of each in-person learning day. Please communicate your plan with your child so that they know exactly what to do and where to go after school.
Schedules: Due to the quarter change and a few adjustments we needed to make in order to balance cohorts, minor schedule changes have been made. Please access or have your child access schedules via Campus Portal. In an effort to provide transitional support to your child, many students will still be provided with an “Extended Learning Opportunity” (ELO) period. During this time, two class periods per week will be spent by teachers supporting students with missing classwork and check-in based on academic and personal goals that students have set for themselves. For the other three class periods per week, academic enrichment activities and lessons will be provided to your child.
Lunch: We are able to open up our cafeteria for dining (with limited seating). A rotating schedule has been made, where some classes will have access to eat lunch in the cafeteria on certain days. Lunches can be brought from home or purchased from the cafeteria. All regular lunches are free of charge. If your child would like to purchase additional ala carte items, they will need to bring their student ID with them.
Please encourage your child to bring a water bottle every day. Drinking fountains won’t be available, but water bottle fillers will be available for students. Bottled water will also be available for purchase (for $1.00) from our cafeteria. In order to limit cash exchanges, we strongly encourage you to pay for your child’s items online at My School Bucks.
Again, we are very much looking forward to returning to a full-in-person learning model and seeing your child(ren) each day! Thank you for your continued support. Don’t forget, every day is a GREAT day to be a Wizard!

Freezin' for a Reason: March 27th, 2021
The Windsor Police Department is hosting this year's Northern Colorado Polar Plunge right here at Windsor Lake (100 N. 5th St.). We wanted to invite all the students to participate in this year's event and make it the biggest on record. Each school can create a team for the students or possibly join a team at the middle school or high school.
This year can be completed in person by taking a dip in the lake or virtually from home. Depending on the students age a parent will have to sign a waiver for the in person piece.
Here is the event page where you can find more details about March 27, 2021.
