I'm thankful!

Book Fair Coming in December

Our annual book fair will be the week of December 9-13. This year our Family Shopping Event will be Monday, December 9th from 3-6 PM when the Winter Concert begins. Classes will have the opportunity to view a quick video overview of the fair prior to coming to the fair. Come out and get some Christmas shopping done in addition to supporting our school library!

Letters About Literature

Letters About Literature (LAL) is a writing contest that encourages students in grades 4–12 to write a personal letter to the author (living or dead) of a fiction or nonfiction book, a short story, poem, essay or speech (sorry, no song lyrics) they have read and about which they have strong feelings. The letter should explore those feelings and why you reacted the way you did during or after reading. It's a great way to get young people to think critically about something they're reading right now or something they've already read.

Attention all students, educators, and parents: the official guidelines for the 2014 Letters About Literature contest are now available. Encourage your 4th-12th grader to enter today!

Literary Lunches

Our Literary Lunch groups are going strong and generating some excellent discussion. We have talked about best friends who have both dealt with cancer (one survives and one doesn't), taking a vacation and living like it is the 1800's, and surviving in a new country after escaping the Vietnam War. I hope to start new groups towards the end of November. I would love to start an 8th grade group.
