Dear Parents:
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year at John G. Conyers Learning Academy. We are excited to start another school year, and hope everyone had an enjoyable, relaxing, and safe summer!
Our administrative team has been hard at work this summer preparing for the new school year. We would like to introduce our administrative team at CLA: Matt Warren- Principal, Christy Loh- Assistant Principal, Megan McFalls- Assistant Principal, Matt Stary- Assistant Principal, and our newest member, Jamie Rocha- Student Services Coordinator. In addition, when you call or stop by the office, you will be greeted by our amazing office staff, Jamie Serna- Secretary and Lynn Erdmann- Clerical. Everyone at CLA is looking forward to working closely with you and your child to make this a great year. Below is some important information for the start of the school year. We can't wait to see everyone back in person and to start a new amazing year!

Playdate at CLA on Aug. 9th
We are excited for our upcoming CLA Playdate! We will be opening the playground to students and families to come and play on the CLA Playground for an hour on Monday, Aug. 9th from 10:00-11:00am and 4:00-5:00pm. The purpose of this event is to invite students to CLA who may be new to the school, may have been in a virtual classroom last year, or may need an opportunity to come with a parent to help ease the transition into the school year. All students and family members are welcome! Masks will be required and parents must remain in attendance to supervise your child. Our custodial staff are still finalizing a few projects around the school, so students will not have access to their classroom at this time. We hope you can attend! Meet the Teacher at CLA
Meet the Teacher for all Early Childhood and ECDEC classrooms will be on WEDNESDAY, August 18, 2021.
- All MORNING students have Meet The Teacher from 10:00-10:30.
- All AFTERNOON students have Meet The Teacher from 11:00-11:30.
While you are here for Meet the Teacher, you may pick up your child’s safety vest (if required in your child’s IEP) to be used on the bus and have a chance to practice getting on and off the bus before their first day.
School Calendar
- The first day of school will be Thursday, August 19th, 2021 for children in Early Childhood and ECDEC programs. School hours are 9:00am - 11:35am for morning classes and 1:05pm - 3:40pm for afternoon classes. Parents dropping off students will NOT be able to walk their child to class on the first day. Each student will be greeted by staff at the front door who will help your child find their classroom. Here is a link to District 15 Official School Calendar.
- Every Friday our district has a shortened school day for students. On Friday school hours are 9:00am - 11:10am for morning classes and 12:40pm - 2:50pm for afternoon classes.
- Please note the dates for NON-ATTENDANCE Mondays. These dates are used for home visits and for professional development for our Early Childhood staff. CLICK this link for the schedule of 2021-22 school year.
Teacher Assignments
The district will be releasing all D15 students teacher assignments on the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus during the evening on Thursday, Aug. 5th.
Parent Orientation
Parent Orientation is Tuesday, September 14th, 2021 from 6:00pm – 7:00pm. This is an informational meeting for parents only if possible. We will share more information about this night as we get closer to the date.
Transportation Information
Bus Information: If your child will be taking a bus to school and the pick up and drop off locations are your home address, you are all set up. If you need to have your child picked up or dropped off at another location OTHER THAN HOME, you must complete this form by 8/5/21. CLICK HERE FOR THE BUS CHANGE REQUEST FORM
Parent Driven Information: If you are planning to Drop Off or Pick Up your child from school each day, please contact the CLA Office as soon as possible. Even if you drove your child last year, we need to confirm each student's transportation plans for the start of this school year.
To ensure your child’s safety, children will be released one at a time to the adult you have chosen to pick them up from school. This applies to all students whether you drive them daily or only once. If someone other than a parent or guardian will be picking your child up from school, PLEASE contact the office with the person’s name prior to pick up so that we have the information.

Medication
If you are new to Conyers Learning Academy this year, you are required to submit updated immunization and physical exam records. In addition, if you have any relevant medical updates regarding your child (ex. new allergies, new medical diagnosis, or injuries/surgeries), please contact one of our school nurses.
