Week of 1/4
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to everyone! I hope that you enjoyed your time with family and friends. I was knee deep in little plastic pieces. I was given the task of helping my 4 yr old son put together his Lego City Fire Station and served as the chief architect as I assisted my daughter with her Barbie Dream House. I don't want to see another toy for a long time but it was fun. I hope everyone had a restful break and returned energized and ready to begin the second half of the year.

Work Attire/Spirit Days
As we begin the new year, I wanted to remind everyone about work attire. As you know, we are all professionals and we need to continue to dress the part. Lately, I think we have become a bit too casual in what is worn to work. Friday has always been the day that we wear the themed t-shirt for the year and we have now added our Hartford spirit wear. When you wear your spiritwear, please wear it professionally. We are going to move away from every Wednesday being a Spirit Wednesday and have specific monthly Spirit Wednesday's that allow our students to join us in showing their spirit like it was originally intended. We will celebrate the second Tuesday of every month and will add the dates to the Google calendar.
Traveling Teachers
Hattie Britt would like me to make any teacher that travels aware that the IRS has announced a change in the mileage rate beginning January 1, 2016. The new rate is 54 cents per mile, down from the current 57.5 cents.
MLK/Black History Month Activities
Please email Maryanne DiMartino your MLK, Jr. Day and Black History Month activities by next Tuesday, January 12.
Field Trips Permission Slips
Due to the shortage of available nurses, we need to adjust our field trip procedures so that we have enough time to find nurses for students that require medical attention on our trips. From this point forward, please have all signed permission slips forwarded to the Health Office at least two weeks prior to your trip. The more advance notice we have, the longer we will have to find a nurse. Also be reminded that state law says that there must be an adult that is Epi-pen trained on all field trips. Keep this in mind as you schedule your dates. If there is anyone that would like to be trained, please see Lisa Doulong in the Health Office.
Mid-Year Reviews & Pacing Chart Meetings
In an effort to save time, we will combine the SPED pacing chart meetings with the Mid-year Review meetings for all SPED teachers. Please bring your data with you to your meeting.
SPED Meeting
The SPED meeting originally scheduled for 1/14 has been moved to February 18th. This will be the mandatory Dyslexia Training. All Corrective Reading, Speech, and Basic Skills teachers must attend.
Thank You
Mary Ann and I would like to extend a thank you to Katy Stafford for her marathon presentation during Tuesday's Admin/Team meetings. The information provided will be very helpful as we move forward integrating many of the things we learned from Who Owns the Learning?
