Principal's Message

These end of the year newsletters are always bittersweet. There's the obvious excitement of summer ahead and some time off for all, but on the other side we have a group of superb students leaving us to high school. I would like to thank our outgoing 8th Grade students and families for their resilience and support of Franklin Middle School. I will go on record as saying I don't think any class through Franklin has had to endure more, but through it all took on the challenges and changes and came out stronger in the end. Please join me in thanking them.

We also use this e-Newsletter to welcome our incoming 6th Grade families. Welcome to Bolt Community. We're excited to have you here and even more excited that next fall is finally looking like we can resume our traditional middle school model. I hope to see as many of our incoming students as possible at this summer's 6th Grade Academy. You'll find the form to sign-up below.

We wish you a safe and relaxing summer. Please don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything we can help you with. Check out the information in this e-Newsletter for important items for this summer and next fall.

8th Grade Awards Assembly Recording

This year's 8th Grade Awards Assembly again had to take on a different look. For the second straight year we have recorded our annual assembly. This by no means diminishes the outstanding accomplishments of our students. Check out the link below for the recording. You'll also find an electronic copy of the program.

Summer Information

Franklin Apparel Order

During the year we will offer several opportunities for Franklin families to put in apparel orders. These orders are all done online through a credit card and will be mailed directly to your home. This is a great way to show your Thunderbolt Pride, especially for our students new to Franklin.

The order form is located below. Orders should be placed prior to June 17.

Summer Academies

We've put together information for this summer's academies. We're having our traditional 6th Grade Academy this summer for our incoming new students to Franklin. In addition, we've added opportunities for our returning 7th and 8th Graders to come to academy as well. Our goal is to ensure ALL our students have the opportunity to come into the building, meet students and staff, and feel ready for the new school year. See the forms below and sign your students up if interested.

Summer Device Care

With summer around the corner, the Cedar Rapids Community School District IT team has a few housekeeping items for student devices. As explained in the student device acknowledgement, students are borrowing a Chromebook that they are responsible for over several years. Students must take care of the device appropriately, and only students and parents/guardians are allowed to use the device.

Students who are completing fifth through 11th grade will take their Chromebooks home this summer, with the expectation that they will bring them back on the first day of next school year.

If you plan to leave the Cedar Rapids Community School District your device will need to be returned to Franklin Middle School. Please call our main office at (319) 558-2452 prior to coming to the building to ensure someone is here.
