Caught being a "REDMEN"

Here at the JSHS we implemented an incentive and reward for students who are meeting expectations or going above and beyond. Students can earn tickets issued by staff for such behaviors. These tickets go into a weekly drawing for a $10 gift card to a local restaurant.

This was created and established by our LEAD in Action committee that is continuously looking for ways to celebrate students that are meeting behavioral and academic expectations.

MATH CAMP!!!

On February 19, 2022, nearly 60 Fostoria 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students spent the day with Heidelberg University preservice teachers learning about mathematicians by finding and solving clues throughout the school. Students tackled grade level standards as they played games, challenged one another, and worked together to become Math Camp Mathematician champions. Some examples of these activities include: using proportional reasoning to tie-dye their own t-shirts, learning about volume and surface area through a life-size hungry hippos game, working with their teams to win a coding robot challenge, and using mathematical reasoning and collaboration during games of Math Basketball and life-size Math Connect Four.

Book Tasting in the Library Media Center!!!

Over the last couple of weeks, the Library Media Center has been busy with “book tastings.” Mrs. Hart’s 8th grade ELA “book tasting” focused on how students need to select a book. They have to analyze their choices in books before selecting their novel. The goal is to get students to not judge a book by its cover but by its content.

Mrs. Reynold’s honor 9th grade ELA participated in a cultural “book tasting.” Books were selected based on their cultural content in which students will then write a multicultural research paper based on their selection. Students also enjoyed snacks from other cultures while selecting their books.

ACT Prep Session were offered and held!!!

Students took advantage of this extra help to prepare for the ACT. On 3/1/22, all juniors were administered the ACT.
