Principal's Message
Aloha Hickam Families,
I hope you had a wonderful start to your new year and had the opportunity to join us for our first movie night in a very long time. The movie was heartfelt, and the weather was beautiful, yet the camaraderie with each other made the night one to remember. I would be remiss if I didn't thank all the people who came to volunteer. I must give a special thanks to our amazing Parent Community Networking Coordinators (PCNC), Mrs. Mondok and Mrs. Priebe, and our remarkable Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) for all your coordination. We always say it takes a village to run a school, and we could not have done it without you. Thanks again for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Patrick Wetzel
Principal
Harbor CDC Parking Lot
For our parents who are new to Hickam, we humbly ask for your assistance in not dropping off students on Julian Way, where the Child Development Center is located, and Radio Road on Julian Avenue due to the immense foot and bike traffic in these areas. The CDC has called and is asking for your assistance with this matter. Of course, the exception is that if you have students who attend both the CDC and Hickam Elementary, it is fine to use the parking lot. If this is not the case, please drop your child (ren) at the Manzelman Circle drop-off.
WASC Accreditation Visit
- The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) will conduct our accreditation visit from February 27th through March 3rd.
- Accreditation is a school improvement process, HES evaluates itself on five domains: Organization, Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, School Culture and Student Support.
- As a school, we determine our school's strengths and growth areas. A few of these growth areas will become our school recommendations and help shape our school for the next six years.
- As a result of the WASC accreditation visit, we will end school early this week, with our dismissal time ending at 1:10 (Wednesday bell schedule for the entire week).

"Be the change you wish to see in the world."- Gandhi
Our Transition Center loved supporting our students at movie night learn to speak the emptions they are feeling, find a healthy way to deal with some, and be encouraging to other students at school. We would love to see our students interact with the resiliency rocks. Please take some home and bring more in so we can continue to support one another. Click on the Attached picture for some more ideas to help with deployment.
Choose Love
Hickam Elementary School's Social Emotional Learning program is called Choose Love.
