Fostering the Social and Emotional Development of Gifted Children
Although advanced in many ways, Gifted Children can often be in danger of learning the least in school because of their unique needs. In this interactive training, you will learn about social characteristics of Gifted Children and how you can contribute to the effective education of your child. We will explore strategies to identify behaviors that will be crucial to your child’s teacher providing a better learning environment for your child. You will also learn practices that you can use at home to nurture the curiosity and creativity of your child.

Engaging Children in Reading and Science through Picture Books
Science textbooks can be overwhelming for many children while picture books tend to focus on fewer topics and give more in-depth information of the concepts. Join us in this session to learn how to combine science and reading in a natural way. Experience hands-on science lessons using picture books to help your child read to learn about the science concept being taught. You will leave this session with lots of tools to help you engage your child in science at home and help open your child’s mind to discover the wonders of science that surrounds them on a daily basis!

Building Basic Reading Skills at Home- Make and Take Session
Join us for a fun, interactive and crafty session designed to guide you through creating engaging activities to support your child’s acquisition of basic reading skills. We will focus on the development of print concepts, phonemic awareness and phonics skills. This sessions is appropriate for parents with students in any grade level that require remediation for independent decoding. All materials will be provided.

Early Childhood Parent Toolkit
Join us as we explore the ESC-20 Early Childhood Parent Plus+ Toolkit! Parent Plus + is an engaging set of activities for parents to use in playful learning with their preschool aged children. This training will train PARENTS to become actively involved in learning how to enhance student engagement with playful learning activities in the home setting. The kit includes activities aligned with the Pre-Kindergarten Guideline standards in math, reading, writing, and language development.

Claudia I. Vargas is from San Antonio, TX. Having more than 20 years’ experience, her work has focused on enhancing Bilingual/ESL programs, instruction and leadership. She is proud to be bilingual, bicultural and biliterate. Having attended San Antonio ISD's public schools, Claudia graduated from Lanier HS as Valedictorian. She got her B.A. in Latino Studies from Dartmouth College and later her Master’s in Educational Leadership from UTSA. Her passion lies in educating our future generations and ensuring that ALL students receive equitable access to the educational system. She brings these strengths to continue growing the understanding that our educational communities must empower our families to empower our students!
