# Polynomials: Second Hour

## Introduction

You will be learning how to do polynomials. Potential uses for polynomials are: finding curve in a roller coaster, the arch of a football kick, and even a model the stock market

## Vocabulary

**Monomial**- an expression containing numbers, variables, and/or multiplication

**Polynomial**- the sum of monomials

**Standard form of a polynomial**- when you write the monomials in descending (going down) order of degree

**Binomial**- has two monomials

**Trinomial**- has 3 monomials

**Degree of a Monomial**- the exponent of the variable, or the sum of the exponents of the variables.

**Degree of a polynomial**- the largest degree of any monomial in the polynomial.

**Like terms**- terms whose variables are the same

**Coefficient**- the number in front of the variable in each term
