Principal's Point 4/8/21
I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather we have been having lately. As we enter the last 6 weeks of school, testing season is upon us. Below, you will see the testing dates for STAAR and our final MAP tests of the year. I know that earlier this week there were a great deal of problems with the STAAR test but I hope and expect that the state will address those before we begin testing on April 20th.
The STAAR test is stressful for everyone involved; students, parents, teachers and administrators. It is overloaded with ill-defined meaning by the state which causes us all to worry about it. We worry that if we don't do well on it, something bad will happen.
I want to encourage you all by saying that all I want from our students on those days is to try their best. We use the STAAR test primarily on campus as one data point (of many) that helps us determine how best to support our students. It gives us a snapshot of some of the things they learned this year. That's it. Nothing bad will happen because of this test.
In fact, based on the hard work of our students and the engaging instruction that our teachers are utilizing, I am confident that our students will show that they grew a lot this year. But, if a student has a bad day as we all have sometimes, we will be here to support them. The STAAR test does not define anyone.
We are all in this together!

MAP Testing - April 13th and 15th
4/13: Math MAP Assessment (Bring your chromebook, charger and earbuds to school)
4/15: Reading MAP Assessment (Bring your chromebook, charger and earbuds to school)
The MAP Assessment is an online assessment delivered 3 times per year at every K-8 campus in Keller ISD. The purpose of the assessment is to provide nationally-normed data on all of our students to better support their growth in math, and reading. In the fall, we delivered these assessments in their respective content classes, but we found that administering the test over the course of multiple days took longer and was not as effective as it could be. Therefore, for our mid-year assessment, we will be administering the test campus-wide similar to how we do our STAAR tests. This test is a diagnostic tool only and will not impact your student’s grades. Students will go to their first period class and will move to their testing center from there. They will be in their testing centers until their normally scheduled lunch time and then will follow an amended schedule for the remainder of the day. All of our students need to make sure that they bring their fully charged Chromebook to class on Tuesday and Thursday.
Remote Students: You will also participate in MAP on Tuesday and Thursday morning and then follow the schedule below for the remainder of the day.

GRADE-SPECIFIC INFORMATION
Incoming 7th Grade vaccination requirements
It is time to start thinking about next year and what that means for your student. All incoming 7th grade students will need their Meningococcal and TDAP vaccinations to begin 7th grade. This is a state requirement. If your student has already received them, GREAT! Please email the nurse a copy of your student's shot record. If your student has not gotten these immunizations yet, please schedule an appointment for them as soon as possible. The health department and local pharmacies offer these vaccines as well as your student's primary care doctor. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I am looking forward to a healthy 21-22 school year.
