Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln's election in 1860 pushed southern states to seceed which was one of the main causes of the civil war. If the southern states didnt threaten to seceed there wouldve been no reason for war. it was the election of 1860 that was kind of the final push for war. President lincoln was aginst slavery and succeeded in abolishing it with the Emancipation Proclimation of 1863. After the war Lincoln was murdered by John Wilkes Booth.
Jefferson Davis
Jefferson Davis became president of the confederacy during the time of the civil war. He was aginst secession but when Mississippi seceeded, he became president so he changed his perspective. He did not succeed because the confederacy lost the war. After the confederacy surendered he was captured, imprisoned and was charged with treason.
Ulysses S. Grant
Ulysses S. Grant commanded the victorious union army during the civil war. He was very skilled when it came to combat stradgy. After the war he became president of the U.S and was a key role in the reconstruction after the war. Ulysses did is job very well as a genreal but he could've been a little less reckless when it came to leading his troops. I think the union wouldve won a few more battles that way.
Robert E. Lee
Robert E Lee was the leader for the south during the civil war. Lee was pro-slavery and believed it was a necessity in life. Lee fought vigorously and trained his troops to never back down. Lee could have been a little more strategic, and a little less confident.
William Carney
William Carney was a Union soldier during the Civil War. He was the first african american to be awared with the medal of honor. Carney was awarded this medal for his actions at Fort Wagner.
Philip Bazaar
Philip Bazaar was a Union navyman for the Civil War.He was awarded the medal of honor for his actions at Fort Fisher. (no self portrait was found)
Julia Ward Howe
Julia Ward Howe was an american abolitionist and poet. she is famous for writing the battle hymn of the republic. this quickly became one of the most popular songs in the Union.
John Wilkes Booth
John Wilkes booth was a southerner who assassinated Abraham lincoln in Ford's Theatre. He impacted the war tremendously by killing the north's leader.
William T. Sherman
William T. sherman commanded the union soldiers on the "march to the sea" across Georgia all the way to the coast leaving a trail of death and distruction. He impacted the war by enraging the Confederate army. His name is still cursed in some parts of south.
Stonewall Jackson
Stonewall Jackson was a war hero and one of the souths most successful generals. After Virgina seceeded from the union Jackson quickly joined the confederate army. He was known for his fearlessness and tenacity during the Shanandoah Valley Campagin. He served under Robert E. Lee and was a key factor during battles untill he died.
