WMS Friday Forecast

May 17, 2019 - Week 35

Happy Friday!

As we get closer to the end of the year, we have a lot going on! Please take a few minutes to read an update about our end of the year and some things related to next year.

  • We are not done! I keep reminding kids over announcements and when we meet that we have a couple of weeks of school left. While we have some fun things planned, we still have a ton of work yet to do! Now is a good time to log into Home Access Center to check grades and assignments. Please encourage your child to continue to work on assignments, get in any late work, and keep working.

  • 2019-2020 Scheduling Update: Our schedule for next year is coming together well. Every year I get a few emails from parents about the team their child is on and if their child is on the “smart team” or the “dumb team”. We work hard to balance our teams with teachers who have different teaching styles and different personalities. We work to have a diverse mix of students on each team. We want our kids to have exposure to all types of people because that is closer to the workforce they will experience when they are older.

  • Room Use for Next Year: As we plan for our schedule, we look at classroom use. Next year we have 12 teachers on carts, compared to 7 this year. We have added a few teachers next year in addition to those we already have. All of our teachers teach lab classes (science, PLTW) have set classrooms, though two science teachers will share lab/classroom space. In some cases we want teachers to move to where the kids are to reduce hallway congestion. As a side note, we expect that there will always be teachers on carts. If we have 100% of teachers with their own rooms then that means we have built a building that is too large. Teachers use their rooms for 5 periods per day, about 70%. To be fiscally responsible with building design and use, we want a higher room utilization than 70%.

  • LRC Fines: A remind that before the end of the year, we will need to clean-up all ID and LRC fines. This is done through the LRC. We will be sending out notices soon. We hold yearbooks until all fines are paid.

HELP MAKE YOUR 8TH GRADE STUDENT’S GRADUATION CELEBRATION A FUN AND MEMORABLE EVENT!!

Can you believe it? Our children are almost done with middle school! To honor their accomplishment, the Wredling PTO is hosting a picnic luncheon to celebrate. The luncheon is on Friday, June 7, 2019, from 1:00-3: 15 pm outside of the Wredling cafeteria.

WE NEED YOUR HELP to make this celebration a success! We need our 8th-grade families to donate items and to volunteer your time. We need donations of desserts, water, game items, and raffle prizes. We need many volunteers, from hot dog grillers to game supervisors. Please click on the attached link, which will take you to a Sign-Up Genius, where you can sign up to donate and volunteer: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0F4CACAD2AABFB6-wredling

It truly takes a village to make the picnic luncheon run and to make the luncheon FUN! We can not do this without you! Help make this a special send-off for your 8th-grade student, as we say goodbye to WMS. Thank you!
