From Your Pastors
Dear Zion family –
The weekend is here, and a lot is happening at Zion!
Recognition of Staff Servants
This weekend during both services, we’ll recognize Leticia Bachman, Jenny Kinard, and Sherlyn Scott for their service to us. These women have blessed Zion in remarkable ways with their tremendous gifts and huge hearts. As they transition from their staff roles at Zion, please join us in thanking them and praising God for all He has done through them.
Installation of Officers
Also this weekend during both services, we will formally install Zion's officers, boards and auxiliary groups for 2023. We are blessed with a wonderful team of volunteers, full of Godly men and women who lead and serve humbly and faithfully.
New Member Class
Have you been attending Zion for a while but haven’t taken the next step of becoming a member? Now is your chance! Beginning Sunday, February 12 during the Connections Hour, from 9:30 to 10:30 am, we’ll host a new member class. This class lasts for four weeks and will cover the basics of what Zion believes and how you can get involved. To register, call Heather Ullmann in the church office at (512) 863-3065.
Zion Lutheran School
During chapel this past Wednesday, we were treated to a video, produced by Cody Stephens and Stephanie Sauls, of our students and faculty celebrating and commemorating 140 years of Christian education at Zion. Check it out in the button below. It’s a great reminder of what a treasure and legacy of faith we have in our school!
Message Series
This weekend we wrap up our message series The Power of Jesus’ Name. Pastor Kevin will preach on the Sovereignty of Jesus’ Name. Jesus’ name is, as the apostle Paul says, “the name that is above every name” (Philippians 2:9). We can rest easy knowing that, even when our lives feel out of control, Jesus has everything under His loving care. If you want to get a jump start on worship, these are the Scripture readings for this weekend’s services:
· Colossians 1:15-23
· John 10:14-18
We’ll see you this weekend at worship at 8 or 10:45 am, or online at zionwalburg.org.

Thank You Zion Family
My dear Zion family –
This week has been incredible! On behalf of my wife Melody and my kids, Hope and Hayden, I want to thank you for your wonderfully warm welcome. Your support during my installation service was overwhelming, the reception afterward added a couple of pounds to my figure, and all your prayers, well-wishes, and gifts have been warming my heart. I am blessed and a bit spoiled to be able to serve in such a fantastic congregation alongside Pastor Kevin and a terrific ministry staff.
I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us together. Through it all, I can promise you this:
- We will continue to be a congregation rooted in God’s Word and centered on Jesus’ death and resurrection.
- We will continue to be a congregation that loves each other and the lost.
- We will continue to be a congregation that seeks to reach the next generation, both in our church and school.
- We will continue to be a congregation that honors our legacy while praying fervently for God’s Spirit to guide us into our future.
- We will continue to be a congregation that humbly relies on God to work through us in ways that are better than we can ask or imagine.
As I said at my installation service, God has been extraordinarily faithful to Zion for 140 years. His faithfulness will not change!
Thank you again for your welcome. I’m honored and excited to be your pastor! See you Sunday.
– Zach

If you, or someone you know, would be interested in more information about this position, please contact the Church Office. Turn in names by January 29.

FROM PASTOR DAVE & CAROL – Thank You!
Carol and I want to express our appreciation to everyone at Zion for their kind words, cards, letters, and gifts we have received over the past few weeks. It has been humbling to experience such an outpouring of kindness – it was unexpected. As I shared in worship the past few weeks, you have been such a blessing to us during the vacancy. We have enjoyed our time at Zion. We appreciated the warm welcome last May and over the months the opportunity to get to know many of you. Thank you for your kindness and making us feel at home at Zion. We pray the Lord continues to richly bless Zion as you begin an exciting new chapter in your mission and ministry.

A Message From the Principal
Thank you!
From both Mr. and Mrs. Wrege – a word of thanks for the dozens and dozens of cards, emails, texts, and messages of love and support as Mr. Wrege is going through his cancer journey.
Mr. Wrege’s Health Status
The past weeks have been ones of recovery and hope. Mrs. Winkelman has admirably taken over the principal duties, and Mr. Wrege has been at home – healing, and waiting for pathology results. The Wrege’s got the good word today (23 Jan) that the report shows that he is clear of cancer since the surgery. Praise God! He is still healing at home, with a hopeful return to Zion on the 30th of January.
Partnering with Concordia University
Three Concordia teachers will be completing field work or clinical teaching at Zion this semester. All the students are pursuing their LTD/ CTD (Lutheran/Christian Teaching Diploma), and part of that process is to get involved with the parish where they are serving.
Practicum Students: Kylie Senclair (Zion alum!) and Madison Medak
Clinical Teacher: Loryn Newman
We will welcome them to our Zion campus!
Teacher Call Committee
The Board of Christian Education voted to Call teachers for Grades Two and Eight for the 2023-2024 school year.
The Call Committee is set. Please join us in praying for the work of this committee, which follows the biblical "call" of asking God to bless our efforts in doing a nationwide search to find the teachers that God will lead us to. This means to place them in our midst to help lead us in our mission of providing a dynamic Christian education in the local community. The committee will begin collecting names of potential teacher candidates, and will do a local, regional, state, and national search for the best teachers- to bless our students. Number one- also place this in your daily prayers- for God to give wisdom, discernment, the proper resources needed, and enough space for our growing school.
The committee members:
Sheri Fischer, teacher
Stephanie Sauls, teacher
Suzan Winkelman, teacher
Gene Buchhorn, Zion member
Samantha Amidon, Community member
Amanda Lester, Representative form the Board of Christian Education
Pastor Kevin Hintze, Pastor
Thomas Wrege, Principal
