Hembree Highlights
September 25, 2020
Note from Mrs. Smith
I hope that you all have had a wonderful week! We had a great week of firsts. Many of our students were able to join us for a full day of learning. So we had first lunch in the cafe, first recess outside, and for some, their first time ever walking in the hallway. This has been so fun to see. It feels like the first week of school.
I have spent many hours on the phone this week. I hear your questions and concerns. I know that the decision to return to Face to Face instruction is not an easy one for everyone. We are here for you when you are ready to make that decision. Please be sure to keep your child's homeroom teacher in the loop for any changes that you make.
We are using the information that you submitted on the Fulton County survey to create plans for our Remote and Face to Face students. Please make your selection in this survey prior to October 2nd, when the survey closes.

Based on the submissions made in the FCS survey, we will have two teachers providing instruction for our remote learners. I would like to introduce Michelle Leatherman and Lisa Tejada as our two remote learning teachers. Ms. Tejada is currently a third grade teacher. Her current face to face class will be taught by Joey Waller starting October 14th. We are excited to announce these teachers. Ms. Tejada and Mrs. Waller were both Teacher of the Year Finalists last year, and Mrs. Leatherman is newer to our family, but not new to teaching. She has years of experience in face to face and remote learning that make her a wonderful fit for this role. Ms. Tejada and Mrs. Leatherman will be the dream team of remote learning!
An Update on Phases:
- Phase 3 will continue for the week of September 29, 2020. Students will continue to attend ONE day next week.
- Phase 4 is scheduled to start on October 5, 2020.
- Once we begin Phase 4, students will attend 2 days a week. We will stay in our URL schedule on Wednesday.
- Phase 4 days for Face to Face learning: Groups 1 and 3 will attend together on Monday and Thursday; Groups 2 and 4 will attend together on Tuesday and Friday.
- If your child does NOT attend on the day(s) they are scheduled to come AND you did not select Remote Learning for Phase 4, your child WILL BE marked absent. This is because students have to be physically present to be marked present in the building. If your child does not attend on the day they are supposed to BUT does attend virtually, it will be recorded as a medically excused absence for your child.
- School is closed to students on October 12 and 13.
- Full Face to Face will begin on October 14 -- Students will attend every day.
- If your child stays in Remote Learning --Mrs. Leatherman or Ms. Tejada will take over as your child's teacher. You will receive communication no later than October 13th regarding teacher assignment and the Remote Learning schedule.
I know that this has been A LOT to keep up with. I am so grateful that you all have been so wonderful during this transition back to some sense of normalcy. I hope that you have a wonderful FALL weekend!
Stay Strong! Stay Positive! Stay Well!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith

From Our PTA
Hembree Springs Parents,
The teachers have created "wish lists" on Amazon to help fulfill the needs of their classrooms. If you are so inclined to donate to your student's classroom or any other class, it would be greatly appreciated. Anything that you can do to help our students be successful in the classroom and not have to share supplies would be wonderful. These items will need to be shipped directly to the school, the address is 815 Hembree Rd, Roswell GA 30076. You can address the packages to either your student's teacher or to Hembree Springs Elementary School. If you choose to address it to the school, please include a gift receipt with your order with the teacher's name on it so that the front office can get the items to the correct grade. The teachers really appreciate the support that you have already given and continue to give. Below you will find the links to the "wish lists". If you have any questions concerning these lists, please reach out to Heidi Forsyth at heifor07@gmail.com. Thank you.

Please Donate to Our Food Drive
Many of our families were economically disadvantaged before the pandemic, but the needs are growing. Families are NOW out of work due to the COVID-19 crisis. If you find that you have a little extra, donating dry goods is one of several ways in which you can help support our children.
