Vermont is keeping the Lights On After-School!
BFMS After-School Programs: Session 1
BFMS ASP students are wrapping up session 1 of programs this week! Eleven ASP students (6th-8th grade) have had the opportunity to attend RVTC (in Springfield, VT) programs. These students have been able to participate in their After-School Programs, with a focus choice of a cooking class, safe babysitting course, or a robotics club. At BFMS ASP students have had a great season in the garden and they just planted 40 cloves of locally grown garlic to harvest next summer. BFMS ASP students have harvested potatoes, tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, and blueberries. In the Craft Clubs, ASP students used over 20,000 perler beads, 12 tin cans, and countless TP rolls to make seasonal crafts. The art project results were very spooky! Over 20 games of chess have been played (and the BFMS Site Coordinator lost almost every game of chess she played!) In the BFMS ASP kitchen, students whipped up three batches of cookies, cupcakes, apple crisp, and dehydrated apples. ASP students walked the town and shared the playground with CES. ASP students visited the Rockingham Free Public Library and were provided with a wonderful enriching STEM program.
Next session we will switch a few clubs and add Prodigy, and yoga and dance, while taking chess down to a single day.

CES After-School Programs: Session 1
Over the last nine weeks at CES ASP students have been having a blast at ASP! While woodworking with Mr. Lawry, students made their own pencils and created wooden puzzles. ASP students had seasonal fun creating a school bulletin board with apples and created 3D pumpkins. ASP students helped in the CES garden and made some slime! ASP students enjoyed moving their bodies in yoga and putting puzzles together. Through the Grafton Nature Museum, ASP students created fairy houses in CES's courtyard, made nature crowns, and dissected pumpkins. ASP students built soccer skills and loved being outside while being active. CES ASP students learned about a fun author of children’s books. ASP students visited the Bellows Falls Recreation Center and Well Street playground. Additionally, they found new some favorite places of some of our teachers in town during our walking field trips. Sam Maskell from the Rockingham Free Public Library has stopped by to share some fun math games with ASP students.

SRES After-School Programs: Session 1
SRES ASP students have been having lots of fun! They have discovered some great math games with Sam Maskell from the Rockingham Free Public Library. Our SRES ASP students have been making seasonal crafts in the Craft Club. With Mrs. Gillam, the SRES ASP students have learned some great team-building games in Wacky Wednesday Club. One of the student's favorite outdoor games was "Dragon Relay." Wacky Wednesday has become one of the students' favorite clubs. On Thursdays, the SRES ASP students have been exploring our schoolyard with Sam McGonigle from the Grafton Nature Museum. The SRES ASP students have been hard at work getting our SRES ASP garden ready for winter by picking the last of our crops, spreading compost, and planting garlic. In Choice Club on Fridays, the ASP students have been having fun choosing from Legos, board games, and outdoor activities.

WCS After-School Programs: Session 1
During session 1 at WCS ASP students have had a blast biking on Tuesdays with a WCS parent volunteer, Pete Biolsi. Pete and one of our supporting ASP staff members took the older WCS ASP students on the road to bike locally. On Thursdays, a WCS ASP staff member worked with the younger WCS ASP students to foster the beginning stages of biking. ASP students had great success with biking and we want to give a big shout out to Pete for all his help! At the WCS ASP, students have enjoyed some great arts and crafts projects using materials from nature. WCS ASP students have also had the amazing opportunity to create puppets from their imaginations. In addition, WCS ASP has offered some successful academic clubs, including some STEM projects and beautiful picture writing.
WCS ASP are excited to have tutoring and homework/reading club starting at the end of November!
