MCPL Field Trip Tomorrow!
Parents, if you would like to join us, please meet us at the library about 9:15.
From the Librarians at the MCPL
MCPL providing opportunities to
Read, Learn, Discover and Create!
The more you read, the better reader you can become. As with any skill, regular practice can improve performance. One proven way to motivate children to read more is to allow them to choose books and other reading material for themselves. A library card enables your child to check out books and magazines, audiobooks, e-books, and other items of interest to them. A library card gives your child access to print and online resources from the public library that they will need to be successful in school, as well as to materials they will want to read for fun!
As part of our partnership with the Monroe County Community School Corporation, Monroe County Public Library provides every student enrolled in an MCCSC school with a free Library card. In September, we plan to start issuing public library cards to all MCCSC elementary students with parental permission to receive one. We expect to have distributed cards to students at all the elementary schools by early November.
- If your child already has their own Library Card, they will simply receive a reminder of their Library Card number. Children obtaining an MCPL Library Card for the first time through this partnership will receive a Youth Starter Card, providing them with access to online resources and enabling them to check out one physical item at a time. Parents can come in to the Library any time with their child to upgrade their child’s “starter card” to a regular card.
If you have any questions about your child’s Library Card, please call us at:
812-349-3050. If you would like to obtain a Library Card for yourself, you can:
- Apply online for a Library card:

After name/address confirmation, you will be issued a physical card and able to check out materials. (We can also help you apply when you visit the Library.)
