Clothing and Shoes
Our LOST AND FOUND will be on display during the Family Dance Night. Please help/encourage your child to claim their items. Unclaimed clothing will be donated to our Family Resource Center on Monday, October 31st.
SHOES:
The PE teachers are looking for PE shoe donations. If your kiddo has outgrown some tennis shoes that still have some life left in them, we would love to receive them.
We are making a collection of loaner shoes for the kids who need a safe pair for PE that day. Shoes with laces, Velcro, elastics, and sport sandals would be great. Drop them off in the bin by the cafeteria door. The bin will be out during our Family Dance. Thanks so much!
*As the weather gets colder and rainy, if your kiddo needs to wear rain or snow boots to school, please send a pair of tennis shoes in their backpack, or even leave an extra pair at school. Participating in PE wearing boots is very dangerous, and leads to a lot of injuries. If they forget for the day, they can borrow a pair of shoes from the loaner bin.
A Season of Giving
Community Outreach: Thanksgiving Baskets
This is the 27th year of this project, which last year served approximately 75 families. With the ongoing high prices of food and energy, it's anticipated that the need for assistance will be greater than ever. If you're in a position to give this year, it will be greatly appreciated by those receiving assistance.
In support of this effort to give back to our community, South Ridge participates annually in a Thanksgiving Food Drive. The drive will begin in early November. More specifics will come from our counselors, Anna Moskal and Anne Lamping and our South Ridge PTA.
If you would like your family to receive a Thanksgiving food basket this year, please email Anna Moskal anna.moskal@ridgefieldsd.org with the number of people in your family by Friday, November 5th.
If you have any questions or concerns or if there's anything else I can be of assistance with, please feel free to email me anna.moskal@ridgefieldsd.org . You will be contacted via email with more detailed information.

Student Safety
Car Drop Off/Pick Up Reminders
Safe Crossings: Students MUST ONLY cross the parking lot via the crosswalk that connects the island to Building B campus. If you are coming from the A building side of campus, please use the connecting crosswalk when signaled by our crossing guard, to the island to meet your child. We cannot allow parents to summon their children near the dumpster. There is too much moving traffic through our lot to ensure the safety of our students.
Parking: The curb of lot B that is the shared sidewalk to side A is a NO PARKING ZONE. It blocks traffic from exiting due to our daycare bus that must use the area to pick up students as lot A is full of busses.
Busses: Do not cross your children between busses to get out to your vehicle in Lot A. The visibility and moving busses are both safety hazards.
Again, all of these guidelines may seem inconvenient, but it is all in an effort to keep our students safe. Ultimately, the safest and most convenient transportation is our bus system. Please visit KWRL to register your student, or confirm their bus route.

Math Play Every Day
Which One Doesn’t Belong?
Enjoy this activity (En Español )with your student. Present the four quadrant organizer with images of sports balls. Ask: Which One Doesn’t Belong? Enjoy debating and attempting ways to rule EACH of the sports balls out of the group.
It’s such an enjoyable activity that encourages justifying thinking and mathematical reasoning. Your student might even take on the challenge of creating their own! Use the blank organizer (En Español ) to see what they can imagine.

The Wall
By Eve Bunting
A young boy and his dad have traveled all the way to Washington, DC to see the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. They have come to find the name of the boy's grandfather, his dad's father. The little boy calls the memorial "my grandfather's wall." As the father and son look for the grandfather's name, they meet others who are visiting the memorial, including a veteran in a wheelchair and a couple weeping while hugging one another.
They see flowers, letters, flags, and a teddy bear that have been left at the wall. When they find the name, they do a rubbing and leave a school photograph of the boy on the ground below his grandfather's name. When the boy says, "It's sad here," his father explains, "It's a place of honor."
Social Emotional Activities
Jar of Gratitude.
Take small slips of paper, and draw or write things your household members are grateful for. Each day in November, pull a slip of paper out of the jar, and share your family member's idea. This opportunity for daily celebration helps to remind ourselves that we have something to be grateful for every day.
