IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR COMMUNITY CLASSROOM STUDENTS
Before Leaving Home in the Morning
- You will be sent a COVID SYMPTOMS checklist to keep by your front door. Please refer to this checklist every morning before leaving for school. If your child is exhibiting any of the symptoms on the list, please do NOT send your child to school. Notify the front office if your child is staying home due to symptoms.
- Your child will need to have their mask(s). If they arrive at school without a mask on, a disposable mask will be provided for them to wear.
- Students are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle. Water fountains can only be used to fill water bottles or cups. Students can not drink directly from them.
- Students may order school lunch or bring one from home.
- Students should bring all of their school supplies listed below. Students will NOT be able to share ANY school supplies and materials, so they must have their own.
Arrival Procedures for Car Riders
- Students will be expected to arrive at school between 7:30 am - 8:30 am.
- They must put on their mask before leaving their car.
- Car riders will be marked TARDY starting at 8:30 am.
- Parents are asked to remain in their vehicles when dropping off students, including students who are tardy.
- Students who are tardy will be greeted at the front door by an adult who will send them to their classroom individually, to account for social distancing.
Arrival Procedures for Bus Riders
- All bus riders will be required to put on their mask before loading the school bus. If a student does not have a mask, they will be given a disposable mask to wear.
- Seats will be assigned by the bus driver.
- Once students arrive at school, they will walk directly to their classrooms.
Breakfast and Lunch Procedures
- Both breakfast and lunch will be delivered to the classrooms. Students will eat in their classroom.
- There will be only one choice for breakfast each day.
- Students will have a choice between one cold option and one hot option for lunch.
- Due to time needed to package breakfast and lunch, students will make their meal choices the day before.
- Meals will be delivered at the appropriate temperatures and will be served by staff who will be wearing gloves.
- The district has received approval to offer free breakfast and lunch for all students through December.
MASK REQUIREMENTS
- All staff and students will be required to wear masks, with only a few exceptions.
- Masks do not need to be worn in the case of a medical issue (a doctor's letter must be provided to the nurse).
- Masks do not need to be worn:
- when eating or drinking
- during outdoor recess when able to distance more than 6ft.
- during PE due to heavier breathing
- during the administering of medicine
- If students do not have one, a disposal mask will be provided for them to wear.
- Students will be given brief mask breaks throughout the day, as needed.
HEALTH ROOM and COVID-19 Procedures
- If your child needs to receive a medication while at school during Phase 2, contact Nurse Larck to arrange for drop off prior to Nov. 4th . Parents can reach Nurse Larck via email at jlarck@richland2.org or by calling the school office at 699.2700. Medication will not be able to be dropped off on November 4.
- Nurse Larck will travel to classrooms to bring students into the hallway to administer prescribed medications.
- Any student exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms will be moved to a separate room from the health room and monitored by an adult. A parent will be called to pick up the child.
- If your child tests positive for COVID-19, please notify Nurse Larck so contact tracing can begin.
- If your child is deemed a close contact to someone who tests positive (less than 6 feet distance, with or without a mask on, for more than 15 minutes), then you will receive a phone call AND a letter explaining next steps. If your child has not been in close contact but needs to monitor symptoms, then you will receive a a letter only.
Richland 2 Parent Toolkit for Health & Safety during Phase 2
Visitor Policy during Phase 2
- To protect the safety of our students and staff, parents and visitors will not be allowed beyond the front lobby.
- We are also asking that parents NOT drop off items during the day to be distributed to students.
- Only if it is an absolutely essential item will that be allowed. The parent will be asked to place the item in a designated bin, and the student will be called to the office to pick up the item. It will not be delivered nor touched by anyone other than the student.
Dismissal Procedures
- We will follow a silent dismissal plan.
- Students will remain with their classroom community and be called when their bus, daycare, or parent arrives to pick them up.
- This will allow us to control the physical distancing of students.
- Each family of car riders will be given a car tag to hang from their rearview mirror, and each family will be assigned a number. This is the number you will use all year and how your child (ren) will be called for dismissal.
- Exact procedures for distribution of car tags and numbers will be relayed soon.

After School Care: Hosted at Pontiac by the BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF THE MIDLANDS
We are looking forward to working with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Midlands for our aftercare this year. We feel confident that they will provide safe, engaging after-care. During Phase 2 students will receive homework help, arts and S.T.E.M. activities, and much more. Please watch the attached video for more information on the safety measures that they are taking during Phase 2.
Hours of operations are from dismissal to 6:30pm. They will be following CDC and DHEC Safety Guidelines. Due to social distancing requirements, space is limited. To reserve your spot and register for this program, please click here.
In addition to serving our Kindergarten thru Fifth grade students, they also have a program for our youngest parrots called Pontiac Juniors. If you have students who are 3 or 4 years old, choose the option "BGC Jr After School Care (2020-21)" after selecting Pontiac as the campus when registering.
If you have any questions, you can contact Boys and Girls Club directly, or reach out to our Assistant Principal, DeAnna Savage (dsavage@richland2.org).
2020-2021 FREE AND REDUCED-PRICE MEAL APPLICATIONS
It’s very important that families who qualify for free and reduced price meals apply for this status as soon as possible. To find out more about the process please click here to read the parent letter that answers a lot of questions including who qualifies for free or reduced-price meals. The quickest and easiest way to submit an application for free or reduced-price meals is to use the online application. Click the link here to start the application.
As a reminder, families have to apply every year. That means students who attended schools in Richland Two in 2019-2020 and received free/reduced price meals MUST complete a new application for eligibility of extended benefits each school year. If you do not reapply, all meal prices will automatically change to full price.
If you do not have access to the online application form, you can submit a paper form. To turn in a paper application, you may
- FAX your completed application to 803-419-5839 OR
- RETURN your completed application to your child's school cafe manager OR
