What's Up At The Nest...

11.30.18

It's going to take more than a snowstorm to take down the OMS community! We heard so many wonderful stories of our student and staff families helping one another with the snow and power outages. Yet one more example of why we are lucky to live and work in this community. Glad to hear that most of our families are back in their homes with power. Of course, our students made the most of the snow during recess. See for yourselves in the slideshow below. Yesterday, Ms. Davis and I enjoyed a team building activity, Fire Brigade, with our entire 3rd grade. The students learned the importance of listening, encouraging, supporting, and celebrating during their challenge.

We hope you have a restful weekend!

Science Club Registration - Winter 2019

Science Club is back, with new projects and old favorites. Science Club meets on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 3:45 to 4:45 in the “window” hallway outside the LMC.

Session 1: He Flies Through the Air (air pressure and flying machines)

We’ll explore some effects of air pressure, then design, build, and test gliders.

Session 2: Snap Circuits and Electronic Components

Learn what makes our world of electronics tick.

Session 3: Viscosity of Oil and Paper Chromatography

Which team of students will successfully solve these challenges?

Session 4: Epidemic and Storm the Castle!

You’ve all seen the hand washing signs in the washrooms at Olive. We’ll do an activity that shows how hand washing really does stop the spread of germs. Our last activity will be the catapult based “Storm the Castle”.

There is no charge for Science Club, however, you must register. Many session sizes are limited to 24 students, with spaces filled on a first come, first served basis. Sessions may fill up quickly so don’t delay. Click HERE for the registration form, complete it, and return it to the OMS office – OR – scan/photograph the completed form and send it to chouse@sd25.org. Registration deadline is Friday, December 21.

Last Call for Prospect Knight Reader Program

Each student who meets this requirement will earn free entrance for him/herself and a family member to the 12/7 Prospect High School Basketball Game as a reward, receive a free dinner coupon, participate in a special ceremony during the game, and earn other surprises throughout the evening. See the 11/9 Olive Branch for more details.
