One of my favorite quotes ever!

Below, I have also embedded a short 2 minute & 13 second video that exemplifies this quote so beautifully. This video has a Zionsville connection - it's from the husband of Kris Devereaux, Mr. Andy Smith!

For those of you that may not know, he has been training for American Ninja Warrior for months. Last spring, he was selected to be on the show. How did he do? You'll have to view the video to find out. It's a pretty darn amazing story!

The Outcome

Teachers, my hat's off to all of you for your wonderful presentations during this past Thursday's Back to School Night. Martha and I had the good fortune of being able to attend each one. Everyone truly embraced the challenge of changing at least one aspect and trying something new. The feedback from the parents were so positive! Congratulations on a job well done!

Mrs. Smith Is On Twitter!

If you'd like to follow her class, please search for her Twitter handle: @SGESmithStars. Thanks, Deidra! We can't wait to retweet out the great work your class will be doing!

If anyone else creates a Twitter page for their classroom, please let us know so we can follow you! Afraid to start your own Twitter page? Then scaffold by starting one as a grade level! The team that tweets together, stays together!

The Power of Hashtags (#)

Let's stay on the Twitter topic. I'll admit it . . . I love putting in keywords and searching through Pinterest. Maybe it's the visuals that get me. However, I've also got just as much admiration for hashtags in Twitter - and wow, are they powerful!

What is a hashtag? Definition: The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. It was created organically by Twitter users as a way to categorize messages. (from Twitter Support, article 49309).

If you enter #ISTE2015, you will find THOUSANDS of tweets and many of them have links that lead you to some professional development, knowledge, insight, resources, etc . . .

What professional topics are you interested in learning more about this year? Close reading? Differentiation? Words their Way? Simply put type any topic with a # before it and I bet you'll find a wonderful new resource!

Need a starting point? Check out #gofindart - this was started by PVE's art teacher, Scott Miller.

Cell phone number for James, our new day custodian - Please feel free to call him, if needed: 317-908-5846. This is a cell phone that has been provided by ABM.

Do you have a class Twitter or Facebook account? If so, please let Connie/Martha know so that we can follow/"like" your page and also link your social media with the SGE Twitter and FB accounts!

Parent-Teacher Conferences . . . Just a friendly reminder. Please refer to email I sent out about it from last week.

Peer Mentors . . . don't forget to fill out the information and give to Lisa Cox on or before September 2nd!

Canvas Update . . . more folders and files have been added to the SGE 15-16 Google Drive Files for Canvas link on home page. Check it out!
