Hembree Highlights
February 19, 2021
Note from Mrs. Smith
Another great week in the books! This week had its own interesting start with URL on Tuesday, but at this point every change or hurdle we face can be made into a fun challenge or opportunity to stretch and grow in new ways. I won't share much from the heart today as I have some important attendance information to share below.
Fulton County Schools recently updated the attendance policy for students. Please read the attached English/Spanish FAQ document for details. It answers a lot of parent questions about how attendance is marked for face to face and virtual students. FCS will be notifying parents on a regular basis by text message, phone or letter regarding the attendance status of their student(s).
Hembree Springs follows the Fulton County Schools attendance policy. We made this video to help make student absence reporting easier for you.
New Hembree Springs Attendance Email Address
In order to streamline our attendance reporting process we created a new email address for you to use to submit excuse notes: hsesattendance@fultonschools.org. Please email excuse notes to this email address and cc: the appropriate teacher(s). We will process the excuse note within 48 hours. Thank you to parents who have already started submitting excuse notes this way. We are excited to offer this to you 😊.
You can still submit paper excuse notes. There is no need to submit both an email and paper excuse note.
Parents should include the following information in an excuse note:
1. Student Name
2. Student FCS ID number (lunch number)
3. Parent/guardian name
4. Parent/guardian email and phone number
5. Reason for excuse
Tardy Policy
Students attending Hembree Springs ES should be in their classroom no later than 7:40am. If a student is not in the classroom at 7:40 they are marked tardy.
Parents must accompany their student to the front door. Please ring the bell and follow the instructions given. Sign in your student. Please complete all columns on the sign in sheet.
Parents may submit a paper excuse note to the school. Excuse notes can be from the parent or from a medical office. If a student was seen by a doctor or dentist a note from the medical office is preferred.
Don’t forget you can email the excuse note to our new attendance email box hsesattendance@fultonschools.org.
Daily Attendance/Student Participation Policy
To be considered present/participated for the day, a student must be present for both the math and reading/language arts classes. Excuse notes for absences must be submitted to Hembree Springs within 5 days of the absence.
Have a great weekend!
Stay Strong! Stay Positive! Stay Well!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith

Virtual Science Day!
Virtual Science Days!
Please join us on March 15th and March 22nd at 6:30 p.m. for Virtual Science Days! Each session will be "live" and under an hour. You may also choose an "at your own pace" model with instructional material so that you are able to conduct these experiments at your convenience. Your family will be provided with all necessary materials for the experiments that will either be sent home with your student or available for pick-up for our virtual students. There will be (1) set of supplies sent home for each family, so please sign up per family not per child. We'll need to know the grade and homeroom teacher of your eldest child in order to send home supplies. The event will take place on TEAMS. Registration closes on February 22nd, so that we have time to secure and deliver supplies for every family that is interested in this program.

A Yearbook Request
The Yearbook needs your help! Please send us pictures and stories of your students learning virtually - this can be from any point this school year. Be sure to include in the email your student's name, their grade, and the teacher they had at the time of the picture. We need all items submitted by Monday, March 1st - email them to Ashley Russ at ashleyjruss@gmail.com.
Here's what we are looking for:
· CANDID moments of your student(s) learning virtually. By candid, we mean non-posed.
· Send us photos of ANYTHING that happens in your home that connects back to our school, no matter how mundane you think it might be - really, anything!
· Is your student an athlete? Share your student’s story and photos! We are talking about any extracurricular sports:
o BMX
o Equestrian
o Sailing
o Rowing
o Dance (ballroom, ballet, etc)
o Curling
o Hockey
o Martial arts: jiu jitsu, tae kwon do, boxing etc.
o Gymnastics
o Golf
o Surfing/longboarding/skateboarding
o Running
o Weight lifting/powerlifting
o Lumberjack sports/highland games
o Strongman competitions
o Legos, marbles, and arm wrestling...to name a few.
· Is your student doing something awesome? Suzie is making face masks for hospital workers? Johnny is collecting food donations for local food banks? Include those pictures and stories as well.
· Let us know if your student is participating in a special lesson that we can feature. Are they dressing up like Romeo and Juliet to perform a play via Zoom? We need to hear about it! Are they participating in a team building experience involving a phone app? Tell us!
This will definitely be a historic book that our students will look back on for years to come. Remember to submit all items by Monday, March 1st to Ashley Russ at ashleyjruss@gmail.com. Please email her with any questions as well. Thank you for your help!
