What Is Hurling?
Hurling is a 3000-year-old Irish game and is the fastest field game in the world. It’s made up of 3 simple elements: a hurl, a leather ball (called a sliotar), and a player. The game is made up of 2 teams with 15 players each and the objective of the game is to get this ball into a net or above a crossbar. There are 2 ways to get the ball from the ground into your hand. There’s the jab lift and there’s the roll lift. To pass the ball to your team mate, there is pretty much 2 basic ways to do it: there’s a hurl pass and there’s a hand pass.
How to Play ?
Unlike in other games, where players from each team line up in their own half, Hurlers players start a game positioned on either side of the half, and pair themselves with an opposing team’s player. For example, the midfielders from each team will line up together at the centre-line of the field. The forwards will position themselves in front of the opposing team’s goal, and the fullbacks will line up beside the opposing team’s forwards. Defensively speaking, you are now paired with a player from the opposing team, and you will be “covering” that person for the duration of the game
The game begins with the Sliotar being thrown in between all four midfielders in the centre. Players will attempt to play the ball along the ground in either direction, and towards a teammate.
The player must use their Hurley to raise the ball of the ground and into their hands, they are not permitted to pick the ball up off the ground.
Players are given only four seconds or four steps to advance the ball.
After four steps, the player must either play the ball by striking the ball with their Hurley, or slapped with an open hand (the hand pass), or kicking it. Alternatively they can opt to bounce or balance the sliotar on the end of the Hurley and may move with the ball like this for as long as they like.
However – the player may only handle the ball twice with it is in their possession. Once the player has taken the ball into their hand a second time, they must play the ball without handling it again.
Scoring
A point is scored when the sliotar is hit over the crossbar, which is above the goal keeper, and between the goal posts. A goal is scored when the sliotar is hit under the cross bar and into the goal between the goal posts. A goal is worth 3 points. Goals and points can be scored from play or from ‘set pieces’ such as a free or a side line cut. 스포츠토토
Essential Skills
Picking up the sliotar via rolling the sliothar with the hurley into the hand (roll lift) or by using the hurley to scoop the sliotar into the hand (jab lift).
Balancing and running with the sliothar on the hurley (solo run).
Striking the sliotar with the hurley on the ground (ground pull or hurl) and by tossing the sliotar into the air and striking it.
Striking the sliotar while moving on the ground or in the air (doubling on the sliothar).
Free Taking: Picking the sliotar from the ground and striking it in one movement without handling the sliotar.
Sideline cut: Chipping the sliotar from the ground when it goes over a sideline.
Fielding the sliotar by catching it in the air.
Blocking a shot is when a player uses his/her hurley to prevent another player from striking the sliotar. This tackle must be done from in front of the striker as they are tossing the sliotar into the air.
Hooking' is a skill where a player uses his/her hurley to prevent another player from striking the sliotar. This is done from behind the striker and his/her hurley must be intercepted as the striking motion is taking place.
