Berea-Midpark Middle School will be hosting Student Led Conferences on Wednesday, February 12th and Thursday, February 20th. The conferences will take place from 3:45pm until 7:15pm in your child’s classroom at a designated time chosen by you. In preparation for the Student Led Conferences, I would like to take the opportunity to provide you with information regarding why we will be taking on this format, things to know about the conference and what to do during the conference. They are as follows: Reasons for Student Led Conferences: Student Led Conferences provide an opportunity for you to hear firsthand about the progress your son or daughter is making. Student Led Conferences allow the student to be the focus/center of the conference. Student Led Conferences promote the idea that students “own” their work, raising the accountability level. Student-Led Conferences eliminate waiting in long lines and allow more flexibility. Things to Know About the Student Led Conference: Allow for one half hour of time to attend the conference. Every student is required to participate in Student Led Conferences. The student is the presenter and speaker throughout the conference. Teachers will be present, but will not be apart of the conference dialogue. Student Led Conferences allows families to have quality time together discussing academic progress and school. Things to Do During the Conference: Let your son or daughter lead the conference. Listen as they explain. They have spent a lot of time and effort preparing their work for you. Encourage your student. Provide specific praise, comments and compliments. Ask follow up questions like, “What part of this assignment/class was challenging for you? Why? What did you learn from this assignment? How can I help you with your goals?” Once again, the Student Led Conferences allow for more flexibility so you can attend either conference night. Please find your child’s team and sign-up with their unique sign-up link HERE. In addition to the Student Led Conferences, teachers will be available to answer questions. If you would like more time to meet with any of your son or daughter’s teachers, please contact the teacher to schedule a conference during their planning time. In order to meet the needs of all students, teachers will not be able to meet with parents privately on these nights. If you have any questions or concerns regarding conferences, please contact the middle school. We look forward to seeing you on February 12th or 20th. Thank you.
