Rise n' Roll Fundraiser Coming to a Close

Dear Families,

There are just a few more days left to raise money for Elsie Rogers students. Our school fundraiser ends this weekend. Please remember to send in your Rise n' Roll order form/money to school on Monday, September 14. We truly thank you for your support in this fundraising effort.

Sincerely,

Elsie Rogers PTO

School Wide Reading Goals

Every grade level will be participating in the Roadrunner Reading Program this year. Because there is a direct correlation between reading and student achievement we have organized a school wide reading program that we hope will inspire children to read. Please reference your child's grade level for the desired amount of reading a week:

Kindergarten - at least 50 minutes, 1st grade - 75 minutes, 2nd and 3rd grade - 100 minutes, 4th and 5th grade - 120 minutes. Depending on your child's grade level, students' reading experiences may look different. Parents may read aloud to students, some students may opt to listen to an audio book while others choose to read aloud to an adult or read silently. All are acceptable! If your student reaches his/her monthly reading goal his/her classroom teacher will reward those students in various ways. If your child reaches his/her reading goal EVERY month, those students will celebrate their achievement by visiting Gymnastics Michiana for a field trip of fun! Please work with your child to ensure his/her name will be on the list in May for the Gymnastics Michiana opportunity.

FrontRow Ed

Exciting news... in the up and coming weeks Elsie Rogers will have a frontrowed.com license for each child. FrontRow is an online math program that is tailored to each child. As students work through various modules, the program adapts and makes adjustments to best suit the need of each student. Next week all teachers will receive training in FrontRow from a fellow colleague who utilized the program last year with much success. The program is web-based, so your child can and should use the program at home!

Please look for information soon from your child's homeroom teacher on how to access this program.

Lunch and Textbook Assistance

We encourage families who are struggling to meet expenses to apply for the National School Lunch Program's free and reduced priced lunch. The application is easy to fill out (one per household) and includes a place to indicate that you would also want to apply for textbook assistance. It's a good idea to take advantage of this program early in the school year. For answers to frequently asked questions and an application, go to our website at www.phmschools.org and click on the link to food and nutrition in the navigation bar on the left side of the page. you can also pick up an application in our school office.

Penn PALS Preschool

Elsie Rogers is thrilled to have the opportunity to house a preschool experience in our building. Patti Reppert is the coordinator at our site. The Penn PALS Community Preschool at Elsie Rogers Elementary still has openings in the morning and afternoon classes. Children must be 2 ½ years old by September 1st and reside in the Penn-Harris-Madison School district. Tuition fees depend on classes: $85/month for 2 day per week class, $100/month for 3 day per week class, and $115/month for 4 day per week class. We offer reduced tuition for families who qualify based on income. Please call 259-5231 for more information.
