Information for Polk Innovative Learning Academy Families
August 13, 2021
We are so very excited to welcome our new and returning virtual learners to the 2021-2022 school year!
Reminders
- One thing we forgot to mention in orientation. Phones are fine to have with them at the center, but not for them to get out and stay on. They can get them out as needed for calling home or during breaks, but having them out all day...nope. :)
- Students: Be sure to check Skype each day for announcements/updates.
- Remember: You have work due by midnight tonight Be sure you're starting this school year strong!
- We have loved seeing all the students in person this week. Next week when they come in to the centers, we will begin diagnostic/benchmark testing. Any time they have left after they finish can be spent on school work.
- Please send in beginning of year paperwork next week if you haven't already. Also, the $20 insurance fee for our chromebooks needs to be paid by the end of August.
Some Tips
- Many students do better with an external mouse instead of the trackpad on the laptop. You can usually find a wireless one for a relatively low cost at Walmart, Target, etc.
- Headphone/earbuds are a must...for home and center time.
- Pretests don't count as grades. They are there to gauge what you already know .Don't stress over them.
Copper Basin Area
Dr. Lanning will be at the East Polk Public Library at 10am on Wednesday 8/18 for students in your area to come take Diagnostic Screeners. Please bring your laptop and charger with you to the library. If you are traveling down during our August center days, you won't need to come to the library.
Important Info for Students with IEPs
Ms. Fonda will be at the South Polk Learning Center on Tuesdays from 9-1 and the CMS Learning Center on Thursdays from 9-1. Be sure that you sign up on these days if your student receives services according to their IEP.
Parent Access to Canvas
On your computer, go to https://polkcountyschools.instructure.com/login/canvas
Click "Parent of a Canvas User" and follow the steps for setting up your account. When you are ready to do this, I will give you a pairing code for your student. This code is only good for a one time use and/or 7 days, so be sure you're ready before you ask for the code.
Student Meals
Breakfast and Lunch are FREE to all Polk County Students this year! If you are at either center during breakfast or lunch, we can get it from the cafeteria free of charge.
