PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents,

I would like to talk about the "Pride of the Titans!" I am so very proud of our successful week, Teacher of the Year nominees, and the work our SGC has put into our proposed Strategic Plan. I entreat you, parents, to be "all in" as we swing for the fences!

Our Student-Led Data Talks for Parents were a grand slam home run! I'm so proud of our students for taking the lead in their learning by tracking their growth and setting goals. Thank you to our teachers, the AVID team, administrators, parents, and students for making our first school-wide Data Talks a success. We are looking forward to repeating the Data Talks in the fall.

We will be shaking the roof with Titan Pride next Friday at our R.I.S.E. UP Pep Rally! The pep rally will promote school spirit, set behavior expectations, and promote "Smart, Happy, and Connected" students and staff! Our PBIS Team (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports) has planned engaging games to reinforce our school's behavior goals of being respectful, individually responsible, safe, and excellent in an entertaining way.

The public comment period for our 2018 Elkins Pointe Strategic Plan and the Candidate Declaration phase for the Elkins Pointe SGC has begun. Parents, we are looking for your input and feedback on our Strategic Plan. Lily Pabian and Jennifer Thompson will be rolling off the board, which means that we will have two parent-elected positions to fill. Please show your Titan Pride, by clicking here to declare yourself a candidate. Please take a moment to view the plan and to give feedback.

Congratulations to Emory Rawlings Johnson, Carly Nessmith, and Todd Wilson for being selected as the top three candidates for Elkins Pointe Teacher of the Year. We are so proud of our teacher nominees. We look forward to announcing our Teacher and Professional of the Year!

Sincerely,

Kindra L. Smith, Ed.S

Principal

Let the Winter Olympics Begin with the CTE Games!

Happy CTE Games, Titans! What's that? CTE stands for Career & Technical Education, but you probably already know that. Ms. Lynnette Lindesay's sixth graders celebrated the month in Olympic style. Her sixth-graders sent their top video game designers from her Business & Computer Science class to the Winter Olympic "GAMES" to see who would win the gold, silver, and bronze medals. Teams dressed in their team colors (blue, gray/white, and black) to show their unity. All teams sent the best of their best to be judged and all teams shined. Thanks to our judges (Traci Dease, Will Jones, Dr. Lorrie Bearden, Abbey Ansley, Carolyn Ingram, Marcela Crowe, and Miyuki Johnson) for stopping by and playing their games. They really enjoyed showing you their coding skills , as well as showing you their team spirit at Elkins Pointe Middle School.

Box Tops Due Feb. 15th!

Send Your Box Tops as Valentine to EPMS!

All Box Tops must be turned in by February 15, 2018, for the spring submission. Please carefully trim your box tops and ensure that all submitted box tops have expiration dates on or after March 1, 2018. Box Tops expiring prior to this date cannot be submitted.

Place all Box Tops in a baggie and turn them into the front office collection box by 2/15!

Box Tops can be clipped from participating products. See the full list of products here: http://www.boxtops4education.com/participating-products.

You can also earn Box Tops for Elkins Pointe via a free app that you can download in the App Store. Just download the app and check for offers each time you shop. After checkout, simply redeem the offer in the app and scan your receipt. Points from the offers are added to our online account within hours of your purchase (PLUS you can still clip the Box Tops on these products and submit them for the general submission).

Each Box Top is worth .10 - schools can earn thousands of dollars through this program! Our goal was to raise at least $400 this year through this program, although the fall submission only earned us $180, so we really need your help in meeting our goal. Note that our feeder elementary schools raise $1,000 or more at their schools, so please think of sending some of your Box Tops to Elkins!

Please help him raise money for over 27,000 Special Olympics Georgia athletes! Donations received helps to support the more than 18 different Olympic-type sports offered year-round, as well as free health care screens to ensure optimal health and performance of Special Olympics Georgia athletes during competition.

The outcome? The opportunity for individuals with intellectual disabilities to experience Joy, Pride and Respect through sports. 100% of your donations are for providing Special Olympic programs to those athletes.

8th Grade Dance Committee Chairs

It’s time to start pulling together Committee Chairs for the 8th Grade Dance! The dance is scheduled for Friday, May 11th, 2018. Although it sounds far away, it will be here before you know it. We will need committee chairs and plenty of volunteers to help make this dance happen. The Committee Chair meeting is an overall meeting to go over the specifics of what the committee chairs will be overseeing. Last year we had over 200 kids attend this event, so the more preparation we take care of on the backend makes the front end process run pretty smoothly. Please make an effort to be a part of this great event!
