The Gompers GATOR Bulletin 3/16/20

Notes from Dr. Miller......
We have officially 20 days until SPRING BREAK. This time period is one of the most crucial and focused times for your child to be in school each day. The teacher is pushing the expectations and rigor as we prepare steadily toward the end of the year and state assessments to ensure our students are meeting grade-level proficiency standards.
As a reminder, supervision does not begin until 8:15 on the campus. Students not enrolled in the YMCA and or in Zero periods/music are not to be on campus. Students must wait outside the gates on Dunrobin.
Lastly, our district and school precautions with Coronavirus Resources
LBUSD is currently distributing the following items via our various channels, including web, email, and social media:
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Resources
An Ounce of Prevention on School Threats
As of this year, 8th Grade will be the only grade to take a Panoramic class picture for Spring 2020.
Let us continue to work together for our school's SUCCESS!!!
Respectfully & With Kids in Mind, Dr. Miller
"Outside" Food Concerns
Students' daily use and respect toward the "covered patio" lunch bench area and "open tables and decorative benches" is unacceptable. Daily students leave food, wrappers, lunch boxes/trays full of food left on the tables and benches, milk/juice/water spills everywhere and sometimes even food "fruit" throwing.
For example, last week the cafeteria served orange slices as part of the menu option. As I monitored the area, orange peels were everywhere. I asked a student, Do you know who left these on the ground? The student's reply was "Oh those are mine". I looked in dismay. The student looked at me and replied: "Well at least I admitted that they are mine".
The problem, I have with this situation described above was there was no regard or respect that this was not an acceptable act to throw the "8" orange peels on the ground in the first place. No, not every student at Gompers does this but this "lack of etiquette" toward eating at breakfast and lunch OUTSIDE is daily and amongst all grade levels.
As a school we:
1)Trash cans are available.
2) Recreation Team is monitoring and consistently asking students to pick up their food items, paper wrappers and throw them in the trash.
As the weather begins to warm up we want the students to be able to utilize the outside facilities but the continued disrespect will resort in moving all students to eat in the cafeteria for breakfast and lunch.
Please talk with your student/child about the expectations for eating and cleaning up after themselves when they are finished with their breakfast and lunch items.
Thank you - Dr. Miller, Recreation Team and Custodial Supervisor - Mr. Cesar
