Here's what's happening in MS this week!

Dear parents,
8th graders continue with M-Step on Tuesday at 8am. Get a good night’s sleep tonight!
ENGLISH
6th Grade: This week, students will be finishing their research writing. Once finished, students will begin working on converting the information presented in their essays to a multimedia format. Students will be getting new spelling words on Monday.
7th Grade: Students are starting an informational text and writing unit using the book Chew on This. We will be practicing our listening skills as we dive into the first chapter of the audiobook on Monday. We will also be getting new spelling words.
8th Grade: On Tuesday and Wednesday, students will be taking the Language Arts portion of the M-Step. Testing will take place during 1st hour and 2nd hour if necessary. Please make sure your students gets a good night of sleep and a good breakfast before the test. Please encourage the students to do their best.
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: We have been learning about fads. Students have chosen a fad from the past to research and present to the class. They should be ready to present by Wednesday. Students have been asked to log time and practice questions on IXL Social Studies. I will be awarding prizes this week for those who’ve practiced the most.
7th Grade: We have been learning about fads. Students have chosen a fad from the past to research and present to the class. They should be ready to present by Wednesday. 8th Grade: This week we will be wrapping up our study of Westward expansion and the Mexican-American War. Students will be creating a newspaper article project, in which they will be a journalist reporting on information regarding the war from the perspective of a people group of their choice.
MATH
6th Grade: 6th graders took a test on Friday. If corrections or retakes are needed, they should do so as soon as possible. This week we will begin learning about exponents and the order of operations. Ask your child what PEMDAS stands for in math.
7th Grade: This week we will continue finding circumference and area of circles. We will then begin discussing how to find the area of composite figures. Expect a quiz this week.
8th Grade: 8th graders have M-Step for LA this week and when they are back in math, we will be continuing our discussion on dilations of images.
SCIENCE
6th Grade: We have been learning about different types of energy and how one can transform into another. We will be continuing that discussion this week along with working on a project that demonstrates kinetic energy. Students have also been asked do practice questions on IXL Science. I will be awarding prizes this week for those that have done the most.
7th Grade: We have been working the process of cell disk on which is called Mitosis. Understanding why cells divide is important in understanding growth and development in living things. It is also applicable to understanding cancer growth and prevention. We will have a quiz Wednesday.
8th Grade: We have been studying about the solar system and comparing the planets. We are also doing practice questions on IXL Science (they are taking the Science portion of the M-Step test on 4/26). I will be awarding prizes this week for those that have practiced the most.
