Nuts & Bolts

January 14, 2019

Congratulations!

Congrats on escaping! That was an experience like no other. Thank you, Sunshine Committee for planning 100% of our January PD day. Thank you, all, for your great attitude, growth mindset, and teamwork Friday.

Thank you, Outreach Committee, for executing our second parent education night with the viewing of the documentary Screenagers. There was insightful conversation after the movie.

I can't wait to see how STEM Week unfolds. Have a fantastic week!

Stakeholder Survey Results

The data shared in last week's staff meeting has been beautifully printed and will be in the work room for you all to check out on Monday. Please leave those copies in the work room.

Specials During STEM Week

Elementary specials are still happening during STEM week. If you need to switch with another teacher to accommodate the schedule please let the specials teacher know. If you have certain students attending a grade level assembly or workshop, please let the specials teachers know those students will not be in their specials class. If you have PE on Thursdays, PE will be held outside.

If you have questions about the STEM week schedule, please ask Nicoletta.

Assistant Evaluations

Lead teachers and assistants should conduct a mid-year evaluation of teaching assistants. First, the lead teacher and their partner assistant will independently complete the evaluation below. Then, both individuals will meet to discuss the results. Comments and notes during the conference should be written on the bottom of the evaluation. Both parties should then sign and date the completed evaluation.

Completed evaluations are due in hard copy form to René no later than Friday, January 25th. All assistants are automatically granted one hour of extra time in their schedules once in the next two weeks to allow time to conduct the conference.

If there are discrepancies that cannot be resolved between the teacher and assistant, please schedule a time to meet with René. Contact René if you have additional questions.

Intent to Return - Form Online

The MMA Letter of Intent for Employees is now an online form. This link was emailed to you Friday night and is also accessible here. Please complete this form digitally by Friday, January 25th and contact René if you have questions or concerns.

Students Withdrawing

If you have direct parent confirmation or even hear that a parent may be withdrawing their child from MMA, please notify the office ASAP. Please do not assume that the family has communicated their intent to leave to anyone else. Please relay to families that there is a procedure for withdrawing their child and it starts in the office.

Recycling Trips

An adult needs to accompany all elementary children to the dumpster area when students are emptying the recycling bins.

WSU Storytelling Festival

MMA has been selected to host an outreach assembly for the WSU Storytelling Festival! On Wednesday, February 27th - all lower elementary classes should report to the original gym to participate in this assembly from 1:30-2:30pm.

Comment During Public Review of New SEEd Standards

Check out the new Utah Science and Engineering Education (SEEd) Standards for Grades K-5 and High School released last week. After reviewing the newly drafted standards, you can make public comment regarding changes or comments you propose on this anonymous survey.

The drafts documents were created to meet the needs articulated by Utah teachers around the current science standards, incorporate cutting-edge research about how students best learn science, and meet the needs of students in the 21st century.

Once the 90-Day Public Review has concluded, the science writing teams will reconvene, to consolidate the feedback for the USBE to review and provide direction on how to revise the draft accordingly.

Thank you for taking time to provide your feedback and supporting the process of developing science standards that prepare Utah students to be college and career ready.

Expectations for Students with Disabilities Survey

The USBE has created a survey about students with disabilities in Utah. They would like as many respondents as possible to share their expectations for and beliefs about educational programs for students with disabilities in our state.

The purpose of this stakeholder survey is to determine baseline public knowledge, perceptions, and expectations regarding mathematics for Utah students, their academic and social achievement, and expected post-school outcomes.

Data from this survey will be used by the Utah State Board of Education specialists and leaders in planning for training, professional development, and technical assistance. All responses are anonymous.

Sub Plans

If you are absent, please email a copy of your sub plans (or directions of where to find the paper copy in your classroom) to office@mariamontessoriacademy.org.
