Monday Memo
We Are Family - May 9, 2022
On behalf of our faculty and staff, I would like to thank all of the parents who made last week a fantastic Teacher Appreciation Week. We are truly grateful for all your efforts to show appreciation for the work we do.
Monday, May 16th is our 2nd Annual Color Run. Last year, we remembered Mrs. Hosek, prekindergarten teacher at Saint Susanna, and dedicated the run to her memory. Mrs. Hosek loved our preschool program and our youngest scholars with her whole heart. We used the money raised last year to purchase a new item for the preschool playground. The item we chose is a large "inchworm climber" for preschoolers. This provides an opportunity for several students to play at once and speaks to the great love Mrs. Hosek had for nature. We also ordered additional border and mulch to expand the preschool area to accommodate the new play structure. My hope was to have this installed before the end of this school year, but it is delayed in its arrival as so many things are right now.
This year any money raised will go to revamp the butterfly garden and bench. The butterfly garden is located between the older section of the building and the kindergarten rooms. It has needed attention for a long time. This was another project that was dear to Mrs. Hosek's heart.
Donations are incredibly easy and free of transaction fees. Simply access our online payment site at www.saintsusannaschool.com/pay and click on donations. From there, choose "Color Run." Donations can also be made via check payable to Saint Susanna School with the memo "Color Run." 100 percent of the funds raised will go directly to our playground upkeep.
Additional information for Monday's Color Run:
- Students in Preschool - 8th grade get to participate. Students in K-8 should plan to wear a plain white or light colored t-shirt and shorts or pants. Preschool and Prekindergarten students can wear play clothes. We use giant bubbles for the preschoolers and colored powder for the older kiddos.
- The run will start at 1:15 in our north parking lot.
- Parents are allowed to attend and will have a special cheering section at the west end of the track. Bring a lawn chair and make yourselves comfortable!
- Each student will get an icee from Kona Ice as a treat after their grade level run!
God bless,
Janet Abdoulaye, Principal

Staffing for 2022-2023
Departing Staff Members
Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Clephane will not be returning as aides in the fall. We appreciate all they have contributed to our school community this year and wish them well on their future endeavors.
Mrs. Matern will also not be returning in the fall. Mrs. Matern is our 5th - 8th grade band teacher. She asked me to share this note with the school community:
Please accept this letter as notification of my resignation due to illness from Saint Susanna School, effective immediately. I have genuinely enjoyed the time I have spent at this school. I am very happy that I spent the last two years with the students, staff, and families at St. Susanna.
During my years of service at Saint Susanna, I have witnessed the growth and enthusiasm for music of our band students. I have enjoyed watching the music program grow. I wish all of you all the best in the years to come. --Mrs. Matern
Please keep Mrs. Matern and her family in your prayers.

Spring Book Fair
The Spring Book Fair will be Monday, May 9th through Thursday, May 12th.
It will be open from 7:45 to 4:00 PM each day. Family Night is Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. It will be held in the Spanish Room of the school (next to 1st grade classroom).
Website: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/stsusannaschool1 The website will also have the digital form of the flyer being sent home today, with videos!
The eWallet is the preferred form of payment for Scholastic items, please. Funds can be set up now through 5/12. This is also great for out-of-town friends and relatives who want to help your student grow their home library. You can forward the eWallet info to them and they can add funds securely.
There will be an All for Books fundraiser (Lollipop pull 50 cents each, cash please).
Online shopping is available 5/9 through 5/22. Over 5,000 items are available online. Scholastic is no different than many retail companies: They are impacted by supply chain issues as well. If items run out at the book fair, this is an excellent option (especially with so many items to choose from!). eWallet funds can be used. Free shipping with over $25 in sales. Ships to your home. Easy peasy!
Please continue to watch the Monday Memo for updates!
Thanks!

Students who will be in kindergarten in the fall of 2022 AND are new to Saint Susanna, must signup for Kindergarten Readiness Testing with Ms. Flanigan and Miss Hoffman. Students who are currently in our PreK program will be tested during their regular school day. This test measures early literacy, writing, and math skills.
