If They Had Known

On Thursday, every student at PNHS viewed the documentary "If They Had Known" followed up by a live Q&A between two SADD students and PYDC Coordinators Kelly & Merielle. There was also a community showing in the evening where over 40 parents and students came to watch the film and engage in meaningful discussion around "party culture".

PHOTOVOICE SHOWCASE

In July of 2017, a PhotoVoice project was completed with rising 6th and 7th graders at the Boys & Girls Club. Through photography and focus groups, youth shared their voice on issues around substance use, mental health and healthy coping mechanisms. Join us as we showcase their work next Thursday!

A very special thank you to Dr. White, ELA Academic Coordinator, Mr. Caple, VPA Coordinator, as well as all of the teachers and parents who encouraged students to submit work and who work daily to nurture creative, talented, and passionate writers.

the story of the Pied Piper

The Students at the FFES library are enjoying making shadow puppets this week. We discussed light and how it bounces off of reflective surfaces and thus what to do and what not to do to make the BEST shadow puppets and silhouettes! We took turns reading and retelling the story of the Pied Piper while a second student acted as the puppeteer. Students decided that the moral of the story is to "Keep your promises and don't make a promise you don't intend to keep!"

An Oyster visit

This week, NMES welcomed visitors from the A.R.C. Hatchery. Our first grade classes enjoyed seeing some hands-on tools and artifacts from oyster farming. The presentation with our fifth grades expanded from just seeing the artifacts to learning about aquaculture, marine stewardship and possible careers in marine studies. Many thanks to our PTA for coordinating this visit and continuing to support our school-wide marine theme initiative.
