MATH
REMEMBER TO PRACTICE MATH FACTS DAILY WITH YOUR CHILD
Thank you so much for helping your child master their addition math facts. Most nights you should expect to see the quiz from the day come home in their daily folder. They will either need to practice the facts from that days’ quiz or start practicing to pass the next level. If they passed, they will be bringing home a copy of the next level to study.

READING
At the beginning of the month we read a humorous story about a character named Sarah Jane. Sarah Jane is worried about going to a new school. She refuses to get out of bed because she keeps imagining all the bad things that can happen. It is a great story to start off the school year because our third graders can understand and sympathize with Sarah's feelings and laugh when they discover the surprise ending to this delightful story. Next, we are reading a Patricia Polacco story. Patricia is a Michigan children's author who we will be focusing on throughout the school year. We will read, compare, contrast, and comprehend several of her books. The first one we are reading is Chicken Sunday. This story is about a young Russian American girl and her African American brothers' who are determined to buy their gramma Eula a beautiful hat. But their good intentions are misunderstood, until they discover just the right way to pay for the hat that Eula's had her eye on.
HOMEWORK
Homework will be handed out every Friday and due back on the following Friday. Homework may consist of a review of the weekly work completed in class & spelling. Parents will be required to look over and sign their child's homework weekly.
In addition to weekly homework, we will also require a monthly reading calendar. Reading calendars will be due at the beginning of each month. Each month your child will be required to read a set amount of minutes. September calendars went home during the first week of school and the reading goal for September is 200 minutes! Reading calendars will be due on or before October 2nd.
