Fitness Nutrition
Commit to Be Fit met with the wrestling team to discuss generalized fitness nutrition for optimal athletic performance earlier this week. Held in the Neuronasium (C2BF's alternative seating classroom), the athletes learned about macros, hydration, and helpful nutrition tips to properly fuel their bodies throughout the season. Thank you, Coach Tucker and Coach Long, for having us!

Fit Kids Clinic Open for RCPS Students and Staff
RCPS is excited to announce that the Fit Kids Clinic has reopened and is available to all RCPS students and staff. If your child gets sick at school, leaving work is not always easy. Telehealth makes it easier. With your consent, our telehealth presenter, Ms. Goode, will be able to use video telehealth technology to connect your child with a provider at Valley Health. In most cases, your child can be diagnosed without leaving school or you having to leave work. Conditions treated include: asthma, allergies, cough, colds, flu, ear aches, sore throats, fever, headaches, head lice, pink eye, and skin irritations. This clinic saves valuable time (for students and parents) and reduces absenteeism. The clinic is available for all students in grades PreK-12 with parental consent. Parents and Guardians- you can find the necessary paperwork at https://www.valleyhealthlink.com/about-us/school-based-telehealth-visits/

Cardio + Strength Training for Weight Management and Improved Health
In addition to weight management, regular cardio and strength training offers many health benefits. This includes a lower risk of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, adverse blood lipid profile, cancer, dementia, anxiety, depression, and fall-related injuries. Furthermore, it has been shown to improve physical function, bone health, sleep, cognition, and overall quality of life. To reap the benefits, the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, recommends that adults engage in at least 150 minutes of physical activity (moderate-intensity) and two strength training activities weekly.
Take a look at your current fitness routine. Are you meeting these guidelines? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Health Statistics, only 26% percent of men and 19% of women are meeting the physical activity (PA) recommendations. While adolescents have different guidelines (60 minutes of moderate to vigorous PA each day), only 20% are receiving adequate physical activity. In short, the large majority of Americans are putting themselves at risk for preventable health problems. The good news is that 150 minutes a week equates to only just over 21 minutes a day. If you aren't meeting the guideline, try to incorporate more physical activity, including to strength training activities, into your week.
While most people, don't need as much assistance with starting a cardio program, strength training can seem overwhelming for those just starting out. In the past, C2BF has offered an online weight training program, Transformation, which included specific workouts (bodyweight and dumbbells) and exercise tutorials. Please take our poll below and let us know if this something that you would like for us to offer in January. As always, reach out to us if you have any questions. We are here to assist you!
Would you participate in an online weight training program?

Happiness Grows When You Give It Away
As announced in our Teachers' Corner newsletter, we are sharing kindness and gratitude. See all the details below.
Thanksgiving is right around the corner and what better way to show gratitude in our community than notes to our coworkers and friends? Let's spread kindness and gratitude this season to each other with a little challenge!
Here's how it works:
- Note cards will be placed in teachers lounge
- If you receive a note in your mailbox, you've been thank'd!
- Read the thank you and keep the gratitude chain going!
- Grab a note card from the teacher's lounge and write notes to others. You can put your name or remain anonymous.
- Stick note in recipient's mail box and watch the gratitude grow!
Be the reason someone smiles this month :)
