Cougar Weekly Update
April 5, 2019
Principal's Message
I am looking forward to Project Up next week! It is always fun to see teachers and students participate in career exploration for the future. As students have the opportunity to see what the future may hold it is my hope they will begin to plan for their futures. Even young children can set goals that will help propel them toward their future!
The Bedtime Read was also great fun. Thanks to the families who donned their pajamas to join us for a fun evening! Thanks to Ms. Loper, Mrs. Coakly, Mrs. Bednarczyk, and Mrs. Pollak for organizing the event including the Book Fair!
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Gwynn

Crayola Colorcycling Program
In honor of Earth Day coming up, our school is teaming up with Crayola for their ColorCycling program to encourage reducing, reusing, and recycling to help keep our planet clean! We are asking them to collect old Crayola markers and bring them to school in order to send to Crayola to be recycled into new markers.
A Note from your Nurse…
Quite a few of our inhalers and Epi-pens have expired, or are due to expire in April.
These emergency medications must accompany your child during a field trip.
Please check with nursing to see if your child’s medication needs renewal.
Thank You,
Nurse Braun/Nurse Kathy

Cougar Elementary will be participating in Uncle Slam’s Reading Program this year.
First Base- Uncle Slam, the Potomac Nationals mascot will come to visit us on Friday, May 31st at dismissal to encourage all of our students to keep on reading.
Second Base- Bookmarks will be distributed for each student to have one. Students will read four books and write them down on the back of the bookmark with a teacher’s or parent’s signature on the bottom to confirm that the books have been read.
Third Base- Cougar’s designated “Reading Game Day” is Sunday June 9th at 1:00. Encourage your students to attend the game that day WITH THEIR BOOKMARK to exchange it for 2 free tickets! The theme of the game is “Caped Crusaders,” meaning the students can wear a Superhero cape if they would like to. Students will be invited on the field before the start of the game to participate in a parade around the field honoring their commitment to reading! (If students can’t make the June 9th game, they can attend any of the other three themed games.) See attached.
Home Plate-Have fun and enjoy the game!
