COVID-19 Closure Update for OPS
Good morning, Otsego families,
Governor Whitmer held a press conference just a short time ago, as anticipated, she shared an executive order to suspend in-person instruction and close school buildings for the remainder of the school year. As part of this executive order she clarified:
All schools must develop an alternative learning plan, which we are currently doing.
All seniors who are on pace to graduate will graduate on time.
There won’t be any state-mandated assessments - that is the M-Step and SAT.
Read by Grade 3 retention law is also suspended.
I know there are still a lot of questions regarding senior activities, athletics, high school musical, underclassman activities, end of the year celebrations and the list goes on. As of right now I don’t have answers to those questions but as we move forward I will provide clarity. This pandemic has presented a challenge like no other as public education is being asked to do something they have never had before. Please be patient and understanding as we wait for additional guidance from the Michigan Department of Education and the Governor’s office, expected next week.
With the anticipation of this announcement our staff has been working behind the scenes this week to create a long distance learning plan for the remainder of the school year. While remotely, we will still plan on our last day of school to be June 11th. Our teaching staff has been phenomenal in delivering this type of learning and connecting with students on a weekly basis. More information concerning our plan will be shared after spring break.
As we approach spring break it is a time for our staff and students to rest and rejuvenate as we continue our distance learning after spring break until the end of the school year. I want to thank all of you for assisting us during this unprecedented time. As I have stated before and will continue to state, TOGETHER, we will get through this.
