Grandparents Day
We will celebrate Grandparents Day on Friday, September 6th from 8:15 - 8:45 a.m. at Vienna-Finley. We hope many grandparents (or people who fill that role in your child's life) can join us for fun activities this Friday.
The book fair will not be open until September 9-13, so shopping will not be part of this year's event. For anyone who is interested, volunteers with our PTO will be available to sell book fair gift certificates after the Grandparents Day celebration.
No School on Labor Day
Reminder: Scott County School District 2 schools are not in session on Labor Day, which is Monday, September 2nd.
Scott 2 Calendar Changes for the 2019-2020 School Year
Please see the
attached letter for our updated school calendar. It includes a two-hour delay on September 11th, November 20th, and April 22nd as well as a two-hour early dismissal on October 9th, January 29th, and May 20th.
Upcoming PTO Meetings, Events, and Box Tops
The first PTO meeting of the 2019-20 school year will be September 5th at 3:30 p.m. in Mrs. Banister's classroom. All VFES parents and teachers are invited and encouraged to attend.
Please mark your calendars for these upcoming PTO events:
The first book fair will be September 9-13.
The fall festival will be November 1st.
Even though the format has changed from cutting out box tops to scanning receipts for digital box tops, Vienna-Finley would still like you to participate in the box top fundraiser throughout the school year. If you have any questions about box tops, please contact the VFES office or Tammy Wolf, PTO president.
Weekly Charity Opportunities
In order to raise money for charities, PTO will be selling popcorn on Friday, September 6th and Friday, September 13th.
The Kona Ice truck will be at VFES during the afternoon of September 20th. We will share additional details, including price/size options, as they become available.
On Friday, September 27th, students who donate $1 can wear a hat during school.

Reminder about the Start/End Times for our School Day
The school day begins at 8:00 a.m. at Vienna-Finley Elementary. If your child is a car rider, please make sure to drop him/her off in time to be in class by 8:00 a.m. each morning.
Our school day ends at 3:00 p.m.
Car Rider Tags
If your child is a car rider and you don't already have the hanging tag for your rearview mirror, please stop by the office this week or let us know how many to send home with your child. Our new dismissal process flows much smoother when you have the car tag ready/displayed for the faculty members who are helping with dismissal. We genuinely appreciate your cooperation.
General Dismissal Information
Before and after school, parents should drop off and pick up students via the doors on the west side of the building. The only times that parents should drop off or pick up students via the front doors are during school hours (due to appointments, illness, or other circumstances that would cause students to miss part of the school day).
The YMCA After School Program
The YMCA is offering an after school program to VFES this year. Parents must complete a registration form at the YMCA in order to get their child(ren) signed up for the program. The cost is $10 per week. As of Friday, August 16th, the program is currently full; however, parents can still register their child to be put on the waiting list.
Volunteer Opportunities at VFES
Throughout the school year, there will be opportunities for adults to volunteer at VFES. In order to be eligible to help with events, chaperone field trips, and volunteer throughout the school, you must complete/submit a Volunteer Registration Form, which is located in the office. The process takes time to complete, so please turn in your form as soon as possible.
Club 3:16
Club 3:16 is open to every student who is enrolled at Vienna-Finley Elementary School. It is not too late to sign up for this extracurricular opportunity. Please contact the VFES office at 812-752-8925 if your child is interested in participating.
