Eastlake Middle School 12.10.18

Dear Parents/Guardians and Community Members:

This week's letter is more of a review, but please keep in mind the important information as we wrap up the first semester. Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns and/or comments about the following items:

A. End of Course Exams. From December 17-21, our students will be taking their final exams in their classes. If your student needs support, make sure they check in with their teacher or pass by the library after school on Wednesday or Thursday for additional support. Make sure they get plenty of rest, eat a good breakfast and have their iPads charged.

B. Eastlake Education Foundation - Taste of Eastlake. Every year, the EEF supports ELM with a gracious donation to help fund technology and other initiatives. We need your support in the several fundraisers that they put together. The Taste of Eastlake if a fun social event that we hope you will attend. The EEF is asking that we sell 30 tickets to this event in addition to seeking community sponsors ($500) and donors ($150 gift basket). We hope you will look at the information below and consider buying a ticket, donating and/or requesting support from your place of work. Please click on this LINK to purchase tickets.

C. Fall Sports Assembly. The assembly start time has been moved to 1:30 PM this Friday in the pavilion. Please make note of the time change.

D. Library and Tutoring. We are going to continue keeping our library open Monday through Thursday from 3:20 to 4:20. Tutoring will be provided on Wednesday and Thursday. We will also announce morning library times shortly. Please note that on November 6th, the library will be closed for voting.

E. Lots Going On! Please see the calendar below for all of the great activities happening at our school site.

F. Coffee with the Principal and PTSO. I hope to see many of you at 8:30 AM in the library on December 11th. There is also a PTSO meeting starting at 6:00 PM in the library.

G. Recognition. If you have a moment, please recognize our awesome teachers with the link below.

H. Military Grant. After Coffee with the Principal (approximately 9:00 or 1100 if you are military), we will discuss the Military Grant that we received. It is an awesome opportunity for our students of military families.

I. Student Concern? If you feel that your student might be a victim of bullying or your student knows of another student being bullied, please use this LINK to report your concerns and we will follow up.

We are lucky to have amazing parents and guardians at ELM. Keep shining and let us know what we can do to support your student.

How Can We Serve You Better?

Do you have concerns that you would like to share with the administration team? Please let us know.

Triton Trait of the Month (Gratitude)

For the months of November & December we will be focusing on Gratitude, or appreciating what you are given.

When you feel gratitude, you feel a sense of abundance. When you express gratitude—especially when it’s heartfelt—you strengthen your relationships with others. Grateful people are happier and more fulfilled. And gratitude leads you to be nicer to other people: more cooperative, patient, and trusting.

For the months of November & December, we encourage gratitude in others. You can model it for others by talking about the good things that happen to you and reframing difficulties by highlighting positive aspects.

"I love this absolutely stunning sunset!"

"This week has been really challenging and stressful, but I am grateful to have support coworkers."

We hope you will continue to engage in great conversations about gratitude with your students. It is especially appropriate at this time of the year.

Let us know how we can serve you. We are to support your student and family. If you have questions about the school's programs or how to get additional help for your student, please contact us at your convenience.

Please be aware that we will be utilizing an app called P3 so that students may report directly to the police station any concerns about possible violence, bullying or other areas of concern. It's an anonymous program.
