EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT
Central Office Communications: Week of January 23, 2022
Egg Harbor Township School Community,
This past week we experienced two major power outages that affected 2 of our schools. The first power outage occurred last Sunday when winds from the storm damaged a major transformer outside the high school. The building suffered the loss of all power, phones, and internet. Our business administrator in conjunction with our facilities and IT departments worked on the issue with electric companies all day on Monday. While there were many trials and tribulations experienced, the combined efforts of these folks got all operations up and running just in time to open the building for Tuesday morning. On Friday, the Davenport Complex was darkened with a power outage just after school opened. The assessment by the facilities department and electric company quickly told us that the repair would take some time and temperature of the building and lunches would be negatively affected. Teamwork went into effect when the administration, teachers, and staff assisted with evacuating the building to district school buses who were directed to transport students and staff to our sister schools, Fernwood Avenue Middle School and the High School so the students could be warm and eat their lunch. All hands were on deck as administrators, teachers, and staff at these schools assisted with welcoming students and making them feel comfortable. They provided each student with a seat, a viewing of Encanto, and a lunch before getting back on the buses for a trip back to Davenport, where they were dismissed for a half day. This was a total team effort that included teachers, staff, administrators, bus drivers, cafeteria staff, IT staff, security staff, and central administration. I could not be more proud of all who contributed to the efficient rollout of the plan! I am grateful for their efforts in keeping both students and staff safe and warm. This is a true example of #EHTPride!
We are closely monitoring district COVID-19 cases, communicating with the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), the Atlantic County Division of Public Health (ACDPH) and the NJDOE via the county superintendent. At this time, we plan for our schools to remain open to serve our students academically, socially, and emotionally. We will assess the impact of our cases on a case by case, classroom by classroom, school by school, department by department basis and do our very best to keep schools safely open.
We are committed to our school district mission to EMBRACE, ENGAGE, and EDUCATE the students of the Egg Harbor Township School District.

STUDENT HEALTH AFFIRMATION
Every student attending EHT Schools must submit a health affirmation form. This form should be reviewed and completed by a parent/guardian and submitted on the first day of school. We ask that in an effort to maintain a safe and healthy environment, you assess your child(ren) every day prior to school and keep them home from school if symptoms are present.
Forms in both English and Spanish are accessible at the following LINK.
Please monitor your child or children for Covid like symptoms prior to sending them to school every day. As per the district health affirmation, Covid-19 like symptoms and Covid-19 situations related to contact tracing, testing and diagnoses are seen in the image above as a reminder. In addition, if a child in your home is exhibiting Covid-19 like symptoms, not only should they remain home and follow-up with their health care provider, but siblings should also remain home and follow the same protocol.

CLIMATE, CULTURE and #EHTPride
CLIMATE, CULTURE & #EHTPride
We are dedicated to learning together, growing together, and healing together within a positive school climate. Celebrations of recognition and reward for achievement, even the littlest steps, will occur in all of our schools as we value the importance of appreciation and respect. We have a lot of #EHTPride in taking care of our students and showcasing their achievements.
We are committed to setting a foundation of culture in our school that includes respect for diversity, inclusion and equity for ALL students and staff. To empower our school community to be positive, supportive, patient, and understanding. To unify all members around one central goal that includes nurturing a strong culture that allows students, teachers, staff, and community members to flourish as individuals and as a community.
With Every Hand Together, Every child, Everyday is provided a relevant learning experience. Our teachers collaborate in professional learning communities to review student progress in order to provide ALL students with the opportunity to learn at high levels. We know that in order to successfully educate each student, we must be cognizant of each student’s individual learning needs. This can only be accomplished if we work together to eliminate any predictability of achievement disparities by race, ethnicity, gender, language, disability, and/or economics. All faculty and staff participated in equity training during our professional learning days. Together, we can achieve more!
