Leader in Me-Habit 8-Find your Voice
Habit 8 is all about finding something you are great at and inspiring others. I have spent the last week talking to the students about finding their voices and encouraging others to make good decisions at school.
We have been struggling as a secondary team to follow expectations which are leading to a decrease in learning in the classroom. Many of our students continue to use their phones, consistently are disruptive, or out of the dress code. Being out of dress code takes time away from instructional time.
Talk to your leader this month about ways that they can inspire others with things they are good at. What ways were they inspired by others on campus as well?
I love inspiring others to see the opportunity that a new day brings. I am inspired by our students everyday with the promise that their future holds and encouraging them to do their very best. Everyday.
In what ways have you found your voice? Email mandi.mcbain@tlca-ar.com with your Leader's name and grade for a Free Sock pass to wear on Friday!
The Benefits of Reading

Thank you for choosing Texas Leadership!
We invite you to stand with Texas Leadership and Public Charter Schools across Texas:
Every day, Texas public charter schools are changing lives and seeing students EXCEL. Our students deserve educational opportunity -- and an incredible community of educators is delivering for them. That’s why it might surprise you to learn there are those in Texas who oppose Public Charter Schools.
Right now, lawmakers are hearing from those opponents, while preparing to pass laws that will impact our schools. Which is why it’s so important to stand together and let our voices be heard.
Here's where we start: Sign your name to this petition that powerfully states our shared belief in quality education.

We invite you to pass this on to your family, your friends, your neighbors, etc.
Our leaders need to know that we won't rest until every family in Texas has the amazing educational opportunity that’s right for them.
Thank you for standing with us!
Attendance Issues and Saturday School
The state also has a 90% rule where students who miss 10% of instruction (excused or unexcused for the year do not get credit for that course. The only way a student can make up that instructional time is through Saturday school. If you have been contacted about Saturday school, please make sure that your student is on time and attends the required amount of time to ensure they get their grade issued on their transcripts. Failure to follow district and state guidelines will result in your Leader not getting their credit issued.
If you have any questions about Saturday school or your Leader, please contact mandi.mcbain@tlca-ar.com to set up a time to meet with me regarding their academic progress and attendance.
Nurse's News
Hey TLPS Families, Nurse Pearson here coming to talk to you about germs & bacteria. When you walk in to a restaurant the last thing on your mind is the amount of germs you are touching. According to a article done on ABC’s “20/20” there is on average 185,000 germs in a restaurant. Here are the top ten places in a restaurant you pick up germs and why it is so important to wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds!
TABLES
Wiping the tables make them appear clean but keep in mind that the rag has already been used to clean up numerous other filthy tables
LEMON WEDGES
The lemons exterior is rarely washed before being cut into wedge for your drink or for food.
SEATS
According to the to news show investigation 70 percent of the chairs tested positive for nasty bacteria including e-coli and they are rarely cleaned well.
SALT AND PEPPER SHAKERS
The table may be wiped down but like lemons Salt and pepper shakers are not wiped down or washed.
KETCHUP BOTTLES
Surprisingly ketchup bottles contain less bacteria than salt and pepper shakers.
GLASSWARE
Most of the time when the staff is putting away stemware they grab the glass by the rim thus transferring germs with their fingers.
BATHROOM FLOOR
Pretty obvious bathroom floors but most restaurants do have them cleaned pretty regularly.
FAUCETS
We all wash our hands in the bathroom but do we all use a Pepe towel to turn the faucet off. Very important to not skip this step.
DOORKNOBS
Doorknobs are a big one but they are cleaned pretty regularly.
MENU
Last but not least and one of those cleaned with the same old rags is menus! Be sure to always clean your hands after looking at the menu!.

Benchmark Testing
ALL students (3-11 grade) will be required to come to take the test ON CAMPUS. As the STAAR and EOC is an incredibly secure assessment, we are not able to provide a virtual option.
The schedule will be as follows:
Tuesday: ALL students in grades 3rd-8th, English I and English II (Reading test) 8am-12pm
Wednesday: ALL students in grades 3rd-8th, Algebra I (Math test) 8am-12pm
Thursday: ALL students 4th and 7th, 5 and 8 Science, Biology (Science and Writing test) 8am-12pm
Friday: ALL Students in grades 8th Social Studies and US History (SS test) 8am-12pm
I understand concerns over health and safety. I can assure you that our campus has been practicing social distancing and cleanliness standards daily. Students will be situated (safely distanced) while testing. They will be required to keep their masks on and will not be moving about the room. Once testing is completed, virtual students are able to be picked up and taken home at that time.
This is not only a district guideline but will be implemented at the state level in April and May when STAAR/EOC testing occurs. No student will be able to take the test remotely but will be required to come on campus.
