JSTEM NEWS BYTES

A Successful Testing Week is Over!
This week we have had 100% attendance for STAAR testing with both 6th and 7th grade. Thank you parents!! We know that you are a critical component to ensure 100%. The students worked very hard on their tests, and have done a great job working in a modified schedule. Next week we will have curriculum based assessments, but that will take place in the content classroom and there will be no modified schedules. STAAR results will not be available until the end of the school year. You will be sent a hard copy of your child's confidential student report when they become available.

New STEMMER's
On Monday, May 2, we held the lottery for the incoming 6th grade class. I want to thank current JSTEM parents who assisted that night with decorations, refreshment service, PTSO recruitment and photography. We are excited about our incoming class and look forward to a full school next year.
End of Year Awards Ceremony
We are planning the end of year awards ceremony for Wednesday, June 1. Special invitations will be sent to the parents of the students receiving awards. The awards are A and A/B honor roll for the year, perfect attendance for the year, content awards, and the principal's award.
7th Grade Field Experiences
On May 23rd our 7th grade students will participate in a variety of different field experiences. Some of the students will travel and others will have the field experience brought to them. Each field experience can accommodate about 25-30 students at a time; therefore, we had the students rank their choices through a google form, and almost every student received their 1st choice. Experiences include: Water Treatment, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, Waste Recycling, and Cyber-Security. Next the students will work in collaborative groups to design and create a new innovation as it relates to their experience. The teachers have elected to give up their conference period and work with your children in rotating groups throughout the day for 6 days. The parent presentation will be held on June 2 at 6:30 p.m.
6th Grade Going to Finance Park
Sixth grade students are at the financial literacy portion of their math curriculum. To enhance this instruction, the children will attend Finance Park and get some real world experience to apply what they have learned in class. Finance Park is a real world financial experience that is coordinated by Junior Achievement. In order to have a successful trip we need about 20 6th grade parent volunteers. The students are grouped by 3-4 and they will need a facilitator for each group. We will go on Tuesday, May 31 from about 9:00-2:00. In order to assist with this trip, parents will need to go through the parent volunteer training. It's a quick process and can be accessed through the below link. Please let me know ASAP if you can serve as a facilitator.
