NEWS & UPDATES FROM SM NORTH

Summer Office Hours

The SM North office will be open Monday - Friday from 7:00-3:30. The office will close on Monday, June 21 for summer break and will re-open on Tuesday, July 27.

Kansas State Assessment

This year, families will be able to access Kansas Assessment Program (KAP-state assessments) student reports from the KITE Parent Portal (created by KSDE and the University of Kansas). The Parent Portal will have the results of the 2020-21 spring assessments, as well as all prior assessments taken by the student.

Students in grades 3-8 and 10 completed state assessments in Reading and Mathematics this spring. Students in grades 5, 8, and 11 also completed their state assessments in Science. Score reports from these assessments will be loaded into the Parent Portal throughout the week of May 26.

We have uploaded parent/guardian emails from Skyward into the KITE system so parents can have online access to their student’s state assessment results. Schools will not send home printed copies of these reports as in years past. Later in the week, student scores and performance levels will also be uploaded in Skyward Family Access where they can be found under the Test Scores tab.

Here is the link to the parent portal login page: https://parentportal.kiteaai.org/login

Detailed instructions for setting up and accessing your child’s scores: https://ksassessments.org/sites/default/files/documents/Kite/Parent_Portal_User_Guide.pdf

Additional information for interpreting your child’s state assessment scores: https://ksassessments.org/understanding-your-students-score

Thank you to our 10th and 11th grade students for taking this assessment this year!

NEWS FROM STUDENT SERVICES

2021-2022 Student Schedules

Counselors will be working on students’ schedules after they have left for the summer. If there is a problem with their schedule, your Academic Counselor will email the student (school email address) and the primary guardian email. Please respond in a timely manner, preferably within 24 hours, so that we can resolve the issue as quickly and efficiently as possible. If students don’t hear from their Academic Counselor, their schedule is complete with the requested courses.

Schedules will be viewable to students and parents in late July (date TBD). At this time, please look at your schedule and check for errors, such as, you were placed in the incorrect course, you have an hour in your schedule without a class, you failed a prerequisite class. This would also be the time to request a preferential change to your classes.

Students will be able to request changes to their schedules until August 12th. Once classes have begun, students will not be able to make preferential changes to student schedules.

Grades and Credit Attainment

If your student has failed a required class this year, it will need to be retaken either in summer school or sometime during the school year prior to graduation.

Students must earn enough credits to be classified up to the next grade level.

Grade Level----------------- Class of 2020 & Beyond Minimum Credits Earned

Grade 9 --------------------------------------------------------0.00

Grade 10 ------------------------------------------------------5.50

Grade 11 -----------------------------------------------------11.5

Required courses can be found in the Program Planning Guide on Page 8 & 9.
