Chaucie's Place
Cumberland Road Elementary School is partnering with Chaucie’s Place, a child advocacy organization in Hamilton County, to bring Smart Steps: A Body Safety Program for Children to our Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade students. Smart Steps is a child sexual abuse prevention and education program that empowers your child to say “NO!” to any unwanted touches that make him/her uncomfortable from anyone.
We invite you to attend a Chaucie’s Place Parent Night to learn more about the Smart Steps program. Cumberland Elementary will be hosting this on Wednesday, October 8th from 6:30pm – 7:30pm in the gym. This meeting is open to all parents and/or guardians of Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade students. Please be advised that Parent Night is not open to children. To learn more about Chaucie’s Place visit: www.chauciesplace.org.

Nature Center
Hello Roadrunners! Did you know that we have a Nature Center? We do! And it needs our help! We would like to re-name the nature center but we need a new name. We are having a contest to see who can come up with a great name for the nature center. Please post your idea to Facebook page CRESNatureCenter (when you search it, it will come up "Name the Nature Center”) — and while you are in there Like us so that you can follow our progress! The top three contenders will be voted on by you with a Drop-the-Coin vote which you will see more on later. Do you have a great new name for the Nature Center?
Save the Date! On October 18th, we are going to do a final clean up for the season on the Nature Center. We NEED YOUR HELP! We will be fixing it up and getting it ready for the Spring. We will be laying down cardboard, spreading wood chips, pulling weeds, trimming trees, and planting bulbs. Things to bring that day:
Gloves
Buckets or kitty litter buckets
Trimmers
Shovels
Thistle Diggers
Water (to drink)
Lots of Elbow Grease!!
Donations that we would appreciate:
Cardboard
Daffodil or tulip bulbs
Also on the 18th, we will be revealing the new name for the Nature Center! How exciting! See you then!

Art, Entertainment & Engines at the DPW Open House
Free, educational fun hosted by the Fishers Department of Public Works
Earlier this season many Fishers families stopped by Touch-A-Truck, and the Department of Public Works Open House is similar, but instead of just touching a truck families have the opportunity to sit in, climb around and even fire up the engines! Fishers Department of Public Works invites your family out for the second annual DPW Open House, free to attend on Wednesday, October 8 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Not only are families invited to learn about trucks and services DPW offers the community, Boy and Girl Scouts can earn badges, and children will enjoy hands-on activities!
During the event, light refreshments will be available and various trucks will be on display and open for children to crawl in. Families are also encouraged to stick around for the paving demonstration to learn how asphalt is laid. We recommend children wear old tennis shoes and clothes they don’t mind getting messy in! Pain a plow will be available for those who want to write their name or leave their handprints on the front of a snow plow blade, and the Water Quality and Stormwater Division will have free giveaways to hand out.
Fishers Department of Public Works relies upon a large staff, heavy machinery and a few really neat trucks to help them maintain Fishers status as a top community to live in. Join us for the DPW open house where your family can get up close and personal with the awesome crew and the giant machines.
Get additional details on our website and be sure to connect with us on Twitter @FishersDPW to share your photos with us during the event!
