Letter from the Principal
Dear Lions Park Families,
We look forward to celebrating Halloween at school on October 31st. Students may wear costumes to school in the afternoon only. Students may bring their costume to school in a bag. Some families also like to pick their children up for lunch that day from 11:50-12:50 to feed them and help them get into their costume. If you wish to take your child home for lunch, please fill out this form by October 30th at 3 p.m. If the form is completed, students will be dismissed in the courtyard at 11:50. If you do not fill out the form, you will have to sign your child out in the office. When students return to school at 12:50, they should meet in the courtyard where they were dismissed.
We will have an outdoor parade (weather permitting) just after 1:15 p.m. All families are welcome to attend. In case of inclement weather, families will not be able to attend. Whether we have the parade or not, we will have classroom parties from 2-3 p.m. that will be attended only by scheduled volunteers. Please help your child make safe and respectful decisions about their costumes. Students may wear an appropriate mask in the parade, but not during school. If your child's costume has a fake weapon, please leave that part at home. All costume accessories will be left in the classroom for recess and lunch. Students may not bring food or candy to share.
Lions Park will have Parent and Teacher Conferences on November 1st, 8:05-3:35, November 9th from 3:40-6:40 p.m. and November 16th from 3:40-6:40 p.m. The electronic sign up and instructions can be found at this link.
We look forward to having this opportunity to meet with you! These meetings provide a valuable opportunity for you to talk face-to-face with your child’s teachers about his or her academic, social, and emotional growth. You can make the most of these conferences by writing down things you wish to discuss. This may include questions you have for the teacher or information you wish to share about your child. These conferences are most beneficial when sharing is done by teacher and parents. Also, if there is particular information you want from the teacher that he or she may not have at their fingertips, you could send an e-mail in advance with a heads up about what you are seeking. In addition to attending the scheduled conference with your child’s homeroom teacher, our other teachers are also available each day of conferences. Feel free to sign up for a time to talk with them as well.
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Warmly,
Katie Kelly

A MESSAGE FROM D57 TEACHING & LEARNING DEPARTMENT
Dear (Fairview, Lions Park, Westbrook) Parents,
Beginning next week, some of our amazing students and their teachers in kindergarten through 5th grade will be engaging in our District’s English Language Arts (ELA) pilot; a pilot is a period of time when we try out and compare new programs to figure out which one will be the best fit for next year and beyond. During this time, you may see new or different materials coming home and your students may want to share their excitement about being involved in the process.
Here’s how it works: Based on important instructional features, input from parents and other teachers, and state requirements, we previewed four programs and selected two of those to try out, Benchmark Advance and HMH Into Learning. Participating teachers will engage their students in a unit from the first program lasting about five weeks. Then they will switch and engage in a unit from the second program for another five weeks.
Thank you for all of the ways, seen and unseen, that you support your children and their learning.
VETERANS DAY
Mark your calendars! Lions Park School typically attends the Village of Mount Prospect Veterans Day ceremony at Lions Park Recreation Center. This will be held on a Saturday this year, but all Lions Park students and staff are still invited, and our chorus will be performing. The ceremony will be on November 11th at 10:30am.
Recognize a Lions Park Staff Member
Lions Park teachers, instructional assistants, custodians, and other staff work hard to support our students on a daily basis. We invite you to fill out the form at this link if you would like to recognize a staff member or a team for their hard work. We will pass on the good news to them. Thank you in advance for sending an encouraging word as we know it will mean so much to our staff.
