CSD Superintendent Update
Cambrian School District, September 12, 2023
Dear Cambrian Families,
As we close in on mid-September, I wanted to take a moment to check in and mention a few important things going on in the Cambrian School District right now. I know everyone is very busy with school projects, events and activities, and I appreciate your commitment to partnering with our district to be informed.
Leaflets Distributed
Two groups recently engaged in distributing literature/leaflets to families outside the Cambrian School District schools during morning drop-off.
Some community members have reported being confused and unclear whether the individuals are from a school or are district staff or are from a school-related parent group.
These groups are not affiliated with the Cambrian School District or our partner associations in any way; however, the Constitutions of the United States and California protect the right to free speech, including distributing leaflets on public sidewalks. Some of these flyers include a QR code that leads to a letter opting out of state testing, among other things. We are verifying with families who respond via this pre-generated letter that they intended to opt out of the items included in the letter.
We respect any group's right to free speech and encourage the peaceful exercise of that right, mutual respect, and professionalism at all times. We ask in your partnership to engage peacefully with these groups, maintaining a safe and peaceful morning routine for our students.
Attendance Awareness Month
September is recognized nationwide as "Attendance Awareness Month," a time to emphasize the important role that consistent attendance plays in shaping the educational journey of our students. As we build attendance habits in September, we want to highlight the importance of regular attendance during the entire academic year.
Strong attendance is the foundation for academic success, personal growth, and building a strong school community. When students are present, they have the opportunity to engage with their teachers, peers, and the curriculum, leading to a more enriched and fulfilling learning experience.
ATTENDANCE TIPS:
If your child will be out of school be sure to call the school’s attendance line.

Throughout September, we encourage you to join us in celebrating Attendance Awareness Month by:
● Making Attendance a Priority: Emphasize the importance of attending school every day. Regular attendance ensures that your child doesn't miss out on important lessons, discussions, and activities that contribute to their overall development.
● Setting a Positive Example: As parents and guardians, your involvement plays an important role in motivating your child to attend school consistently. Your commitment to attendance sends a powerful message about its importance.
● Creating a Routine: Establish a daily routine that includes enough time for rest, preparation, and travel to school. A consistent routine helps students transition smoothly into their learning environment each day.
● Open Communication: If your child is facing challenges that might impact their attendance, please don't hesitate to reach out to your school's administration and staff. We are here to support and work collaboratively to find solutions.
● Celebrate Success: Recognize your child's achievements and milestones in attendance. Positive reinforcement can go a long way.
Thank you for being an integral part of our school community. Together, let’s celebrate our students’ potential and ensure that September Attendance Awareness Month sets a positive tone for the entire school year ahead.
Sincerely,
KRISTI SCHWIEBERT
